Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet all guests upon arrival with a warm, professional, and courteous demeanor, offering assistance and information as needed.
  • Efficiently and safely direct drivers to available parking spaces, utilizing clear hand signals and verbal communication to manage traffic flow.
  • Operate and maintain various types of parking control equipment, including automated pay stations, ticket dispensers, and entry/exit gate arms.
  • Accurately calculate parking charges based on duration of stay and applicable rates, and process payments via cash, credit card, or validation.
  • Issue parking tickets, receipts, and validation stamps to customers, clearly explaining the process and policies of the facility.
  • For valet positions, carefully drive, park, and retrieve customer vehicles in a safe and timely manner, respecting the customer's property at all times.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections upon arrival and departure, meticulously documenting any pre-existing damage on vehicle condition forms to protect all parties.
  • Manage the organization and security of vehicle keys, employing a systematic key-tagging and storage process to ensure quick retrieval and prevent loss.
  • Provide patrons with clear and helpful information regarding parking rates, facility hours, directions, and answers to general inquiries about the location.
  • Maintain constant vigilance over the parking areas, actively monitoring for any safety hazards, security concerns, or suspicious activities and reporting them promptly.
  • Proactively manage the flow of traffic within the parking lot or garage, especially during peak entry and exit times or during special events.
  • Assist customers with minor vehicle issues when possible, such as providing jump-starts (if authorized and trained) or helping them locate their parked vehicle.
  • Place and remove traffic management equipment like cones, barricades, and signage to direct vehicles, reserve spaces, or close off sections of the facility.
  • Ensure all vehicles are parked properly within marked stalls and enforce parking regulations with a firm but polite approach to maintain order and maximize capacity.
  • Address customer concerns and complaints with empathy and professionalism, working to resolve issues on the spot or escalating them to a supervisor when necessary.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the parking facility, including attendant booths, waiting areas, and parking levels, by sweeping debris and removing trash.
  • Perform routine checks and light preventative maintenance on parking equipment to ensure it remains in good working order, reporting malfunctions for repair.
  • Complete detailed daily shift reports, which may include transaction summaries, revenue totals, vehicle counts, and a log of any incidents or irregularities.
  • Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the entire parking facility to ensure a visible presence, deter theft, and identify maintenance or safety issues.
  • Manage the lost and found process for any items left by customers in their vehicles or within the parking area, logging and securing items according to policy.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors using two-way radios or other communication devices to coordinate activities and respond to situations.
  • Observe and report any structural maintenance needs, such as burned-out lights, faded line markings, or damage to the facility infrastructure.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Cash Handling & Point of Sale (POS): Proficient in accurately handling cash, processing credit card transactions, and operating POS systems or cash registers.
  • Basic Mathematics: Ability to quickly calculate parking fees, provide correct change, and reconcile daily revenue reports.
  • Operation of Parking Equipment: Familiarity with operating ticket dispensers, automated pay stations, gate arms, and other parking management technology.
  • Manual Transmission Driving: For valet positions, the ability to competently and safely operate vehicles with both automatic and manual transmissions is often required.
  • Traffic Control: Knowledge of standard hand signals and procedures for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely and efficiently.
  • Valid Driver's License: A valid license and a clean driving record are typically mandatory, especially for roles involving driving customer vehicles.
