Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Oversee the entire scope of daily pharmacy operations, including prescription filling, verification, and dispensing processes, to guarantee accuracy, efficiency, and strict adherence to established policies.
  • Lead, mentor, and cultivate the professional development of the pharmacy team, which includes Staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, by managing staffing, scheduling, comprehensive training, and conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Assume full accountability for the pharmacy's financial performance, entailing the management of the budget, detailed analysis of profit and loss statements, and the implementation of strategic initiatives to achieve sales, margin, and prescription growth targets.
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, HIPAA, and OSHA, while serving as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) for all regulatory inspections and inquiries.
  • Champion and deliver an exceptional standard of patient care and customer service, personally providing in-depth patient counseling, resolving complex issues, and implementing programs to enhance patient satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Strategically manage the pharmacy's inventory by overseeing ordering, receiving, and returns processes, and by implementing robust loss prevention measures to control shrinkage and optimize inventory turns.
  • Direct the implementation, execution, and promotion of advanced clinical pharmacy services, such as Medication Therapy Management (MTM), immunizations, and health screenings, to improve patient outcomes and create new revenue streams.
  • Develop and nurture strong professional relationships with local healthcare providers, including physicians and their office staff, to facilitate seamless patient care coordination and drive prescription referrals.
  • Ensure the pharmacy is properly equipped, secured, and maintained, overseeing the functionality of all pharmacy equipment, technology, and automation systems to support a safe and efficient workflow.
  • Foster and enforce a culture of medication safety and quality assurance by implementing and monitoring error prevention strategies and leading the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  • Skillfully manage all facets of third-party payer relationships, including navigating contract compliance, preparing for and responding to audits, and reconciling claims to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Drive local marketing and community outreach initiatives to effectively promote the pharmacy's unique services, build brand presence, and attract new patients from the surrounding area.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all escalated patient and provider inquiries or complaints, employing superior problem-solving skills to de-escalate situations and reach a satisfactory resolution.

  • Manage payroll, timekeeping, and labor costs effectively, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained to meet patient demand without exceeding budgetary constraints.
  • Uphold the physical and digital security of the pharmacy, including controlled substances and confidential patient health information (PHI), by strictly enforcing all security protocols and procedures.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in pharmacy practice, new drug therapies, and evolving regulatory changes to ensure the pharmacy remains a cutting-edge and compliant healthcare destination.
  • Collaborate effectively with front-store management or other department heads to execute integrated business plans and promotions that enhance the overall customer experience and total store performance.
  • Conduct regular internal audits of key pharmacy processes, from prescription intake to patient pickup, to identify and correct any deviations from standard operating procedures and ensure quality.
  • Spearhead the local execution of corporate initiatives and pilot programs, providing constructive feedback to leadership and ensuring successful implementation and adoption by the pharmacy team.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.S. Pharmacy) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Active, unrestricted, and in good standing Pharmacist license in the state of practice.

Preferred Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a similar advanced degree in management or healthcare administration.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
