Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan welding procedures for piping systems.
  • Select and set up welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding machines.
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cutting, beveling, cleaning, and aligning pipes for welding.
  • Execute precise welding procedures on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping systems.
  • Inspect weld joints for quality, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and codes.
  • Use measuring instruments, templates, and levels to align and assemble piping accurately.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in safe and operational condition.
  • Collaborate with engineers, pipefitters, and other construction personnel to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Monitor welding process parameters such as voltage, amperage, and heat input to achieve consistent weld quality.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques like visual inspection, X-ray, or ultrasonic testing as required.
  • Repair or replace defective welds in accordance with project specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASME, and other regulatory safety standards during all welding activities.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, including proper handling and storage of flammable materials.
  • Record welding operations, materials used, and inspection results for project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot welding defects and apply corrective actions to maintain project integrity.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, or under adverse environmental conditions safely.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide input on welding feasibility and timelines.
  • Train junior welders on welding techniques, safety protocols, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with quality control teams to verify that all welds meet internal and client specifications.
  • Continuously update knowledge of welding technologies, codes, and best practices.
