Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Continuously monitor and control pipeline pressures, temperatures, and flow rates using advanced SCADA systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient product transportation.
- Acknowledge, evaluate, and respond to system alarms and abnormal operating conditions (AOCs) in a timely and effective manner, initiating appropriate corrective actions per established procedures.
- Act as the central point of communication, directing and coordinating with field personnel, maintenance teams, and emergency responders to address operational issues, equipment failures, or integrity threats.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate electronic logs of all control room activities, including operational adjustments, alarm resolutions, and communications, to ensure regulatory compliance and provide a clear audit trail.
- Execute the safe and orderly startup and shutdown of pipeline segments, compressor stations, and pump stations in accordance with detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Proactively monitor pipeline integrity using real-time leak detection systems and computational models, analyzing data trends to identify and report potential anomalies.
- Manage and coordinate product nomination and scheduling, ensuring the precise timing and volumetric accuracy for receipts and deliveries with connecting carriers, shippers, and customers.
- Perform daily volumetric accounting and line-balance calculations to track product inventory, identify measurement discrepancies, and ensure transactional accuracy across the pipeline system.
- Ensure all control room operations strictly adhere to federal regulations, including DOT/PHMSA Part 192 (Gas) and 195 (Liquids), company policies, and the Control Room Management (CRM) plan.
- Serve as the primary communications hub during operational upsets or emergency situations, providing clear, concise, and factual information to management, field teams, and external agencies.
- Analyze historical and real-time system performance data to identify operational trends, optimize hydraulic efficiency, and recommend improvements to procedures or system configurations.
- Troubleshoot first-level issues with the SCADA system, remote terminal units (RTUs), and communication links, escalating complex problems to SCADA/IT support teams.
- Actively participate in comprehensive emergency response drills, tabletop exercises, and ongoing training to maintain a high level of preparedness for various incident scenarios.
- Review, validate, and compile pipeline system data to generate accurate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports for internal stakeholders in commercial, engineering, and management.
- Authorize, monitor, and document maintenance work and one-call tickets (line locates) occurring near the pipeline right-of-way to prevent third-party damage.
- Monitor and control the quality of transported products, such as natural gas BTU content or crude oil API gravity, to meet stringent pipeline and customer specifications.
- Plan, implement, and manage pipeline pigging operations, including the launching, tracking, and receiving of cleaning, batching, and in-line inspection (ILI) tools.
- Manage power consumption and coordinate with utility providers for electrically driven pump and compressor stations to optimize energy efficiency and minimize operational costs.
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to less experienced operators, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous learning within the control center.
- Interface directly with scheduling departments, commercial teams, and third-party operators to coordinate seamless product flow and proactively resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Calculate and carefully monitor system line pack and inventory levels to ensure operational flexibility, system integrity, and the ability to meet downstream demand.
- Review and provide critical feedback on operating procedures, emergency plans, and training materials to ensure they remain current, accurate, and effective for control room use.

- Assist in the formal investigation and documentation of incidents, near-misses, and significant operational upsets to identify root causes and preventative actions.
