Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Developing, publishing, and maintaining the daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to align with customer demand and inventory targets.
- Coordinating the timely procurement and delivery of raw materials, components, and packaging to prevent production line stoppages.
- Monitoring production progress against the established schedule, identifying potential bottlenecks or delays, and proactively communicating with department supervisors.
- Managing the plant's inventory levels for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods, often utilizing an ERP or MRP system.
- Acting as the primary point of contact between the production floor, maintenance, quality control, and shipping departments to ensure seamless operational flow.
- Generating and distributing work orders, bills of material (BOMs), and other essential production documentation to the relevant teams.
- Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as On-Time Delivery (OTD), production attainment, scrap rates, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Facilitating the resolution of production-related issues by coordinating resources from maintenance, engineering, or quality departments.
- Planning and coordinating outbound shipments of finished goods, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant with customer requirements.
- Entering and maintaining accurate production data, inventory transactions, and scheduling information within the company's ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE).
- Assisting the Plant Manager with administrative tasks, including generating reports, preparing for meetings, and tracking departmental budgets.
- Ensuring all production and shipping activities adhere to established safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Communicating schedule changes, material shortages, or other critical operational updates to all affected stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Participating in and often leading daily production meetings to review performance, discuss challenges, and align on the day's priorities.
- Coordinating with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and freight carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
- Managing the return of defective materials to suppliers and processing related documentation.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) by identifying opportunities for waste reduction and process optimization.
- Assisting in the training of new team members on plant procedures, safety guidelines, and system usage.
- Conducting regular cycle counts and supporting physical inventory audits to ensure system accuracy.
- Verifying the availability of necessary tools, equipment, and personnel to execute the production plan effectively.
- Preparing comprehensive end-of-shift or daily production summary reports for plant leadership.
