Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Full P&L and Financial Oversight: Develop, implement, and meticulously manage the plant's annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring full P&L accountability and alignment with corporate financial objectives to drive profitability and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Strategic Operations Leadership: Formulate and execute a comprehensive plant-level strategy that supports overarching business goals, focusing on long-term growth, capacity planning, and technological advancement.
  • Safety and Environmental Stewardship: Champion a world-class safety-first culture (EHS), driving initiatives to achieve zero-incident performance and ensuring unwavering compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Production and Performance Management: Direct and orchestrate all plant operations to consistently meet or exceed aggressive production schedules, volume targets, and efficiency metrics (OEE) without compromising on quality or safety.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Uphold and enforce stringent quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) to guarantee that all products meet customer specifications and internal quality benchmarks, leading root cause analysis for any deviations.
  • Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing: Spearhead the deployment of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies across all departments to eliminate waste, optimize workflows, and foster a culture of operational excellence.
  • Team Leadership and Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the plant leadership team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable environment. Oversee succession planning, training programs, and performance management for the entire facility.
  • Supply Chain & Inventory Management: Oversee the end-to-end site supply chain, including raw material procurement, warehousing, inventory control, and logistics, to ensure optimal material flow and minimize working capital.
  • Capital Project Management: Conceive, justify, and manage the execution of significant capital investment projects, from equipment upgrades and new line installations to facility expansions, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for key customer audits and visits, building strong relationships and ensuring the plant is perceived as a reliable and high-quality partner.
  • Labor Relations Management: In unionized environments, lead or play a key role in collective bargaining negotiations and manage the ongoing labor-management relationship to ensure a stable and productive workforce.
  • Resource Allocation and Optimization: Strategically allocate resources—including manpower, equipment, and capital—to maximize productivity, address bottlenecks, and respond effectively to changing production demands.
  • Performance Reporting and Analysis: Regularly analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational data to assess performance against targets, presenting clear and concise reports to executive leadership with actionable insights and corrective action plans.

  • Facility and Maintenance Oversight: Ensure the facility and all production equipment are maintained to the highest standards of reliability and safety through a robust preventative and predictive maintenance program.
  • Change Management Leadership: Effectively lead the organization through significant changes, whether technological, procedural, or cultural, by communicating a clear vision and building buy-in at all levels.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Audits: Guarantee the plant is prepared for and successfully passes all internal and external audits, including those related to finance, quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Crisis Management and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain a comprehensive business continuity plan to effectively manage and mitigate risks associated with operational disruptions, supply chain issues, or other emergencies.
  • Technology and Automation Strategy: Evaluate and champion the adoption of new technologies, automation, and digital manufacturing tools (Industry 4.0) to enhance productivity, improve data-driven decision-making, and maintain a competitive edge.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • P&L Management & Financial Acumen: Deep expertise in developing and managing multi-million dollar budgets, capital planning, cost analysis, and understanding financial statements to drive profitability.
  • Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma: Certified or highly proficient in lean principles (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, VSM) and Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC), with a proven track record of leading successful operational excellence initiatives.
  • Supply Chain and Logistics Management: Comprehensive understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes, including S&OP, inventory management, procurement, and logistics optimization.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline.
