Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, manage, and execute a portfolio of capital projects from initial concept and justification through design, procurement, installation, and commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Provide daily technical support and advanced troubleshooting for complex equipment failures and process issues to minimize downtime and resolve production bottlenecks.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies to optimize plant efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Design, implement, and manage the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance programs, utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to improve asset reliability and lifespan.
- Ensure all plant operations, equipment modifications, and projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant industry standards.
- Prepare detailed project scopes, cost estimates (AFEs), and timelines for capital and major expense projects, presenting business cases to senior leadership for approval.
- Oversee the work of outside contractors and service providers, managing contracts, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and verifying the quality of work performed.
- Analyze production data, equipment performance metrics, and maintenance records to identify trends, root causes of failures, and opportunities for strategic improvements.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for significant equipment failures or safety incidents, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Develop and maintain critical engineering documentation, including P&IDs, equipment specifications, electrical schematics, facility layouts, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Serve as the technical expert for the procurement of new equipment, developing specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and managing the factory acceptance testing (FAT) process.
- Manage the plant's infrastructure and utility systems, including steam, compressed air, HVAC, water treatment, and electrical distribution, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.
- Identify and implement energy conservation projects to reduce the plant's utility consumption and environmental footprint.
- Collaborate closely with the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department to engineer and implement safety improvements, conduct risk assessments, and support process safety management (PSM) programs.
- Design and implement modifications to existing equipment and control systems (including PLCs and HMI) to improve functionality, safety, and productivity.
- Develop and manage the long-range capital investment plan for the facility, aligning engineering projects with overall business objectives.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians, operators, and junior engineering staff to build a more skilled and capable technical workforce.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies and automation solutions that can provide a competitive advantage through improved quality, cost, and efficiency.
- Manage the inventory of critical spare parts, working with maintenance and procurement to optimize stock levels and ensure availability.
- Act as the primary engineering liaison between the plant and corporate engineering, R&D, and other support functions.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Capital Project Management: Proven ability to manage engineering projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management.
- CMMS Software: Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Fiix) for asset management and work order tracking.
- CAD Software: Expertise in using AutoCAD or SolidWorks for creating and modifying plant layouts, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Strong command of problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis.
