Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Analyze production data, process parameters, and efficiency metrics to identify trends, uncover root causes of issues, and recommend data-driven improvements.
  • Actively participate in and support continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives, such as Kaizen events, 5S workplace organization, and value stream mapping projects.
  • Develop, draft, and update critical technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process flow diagrams to ensure operational consistency.
  • Assist senior engineers in the planning, execution, and management of capital projects, including new equipment installations, facility modifications, and process upgrades.
  • Support the Quality Assurance department by investigating product defects or process deviations, participating in root cause analysis, and helping to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Collaborate directly with production supervisors, maintenance technicians, and floor operators to troubleshoot daily operational challenges and gather feedback for process changes.
  • Conduct time studies, ergonomic assessments, and workflow analyses on the plant floor to establish labor standards and identify opportunities to improve safety and productivity.
  • Utilize CAD software (like AutoCAD or SolidWorks) to create or modify plant layouts, workstation designs, and simple fixtures or tooling to enhance manufacturing flow.
  • Support the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team by participating in safety audits, job hazard analyses, and incident investigations to foster a safer work environment.
  • Lead and manage a small-scale engineering or operational improvement project from conception through to completion under the guidance of a mentor.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on project findings, data analysis, and improvement recommendations to a cross-functional audience including peers and plant leadership.
  • Assist with the formal validation and qualification of new or modified manufacturing equipment and processes to ensure they meet all performance and quality specifications.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and perform exploratory data analysis to answer specific operational questions from management and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to the organization's broader data and operational strategy by providing fresh perspectives and insights gained from project work.
  • Collaborate with various business units, including supply chain and finance, to translate their data needs into tangible engineering or operational requirements.
  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives within the engineering or operations team.
  • Assist in maintaining the accuracy of manufacturing data within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, such as Bill of Materials (BOMs) and production routings.
  • Track and create visual reports for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, and cycle times.
  • Research emerging manufacturing technologies, automation solutions, and industry best practices to present potential opportunities for innovation.
  • Shadow different roles within the plant (e.g., maintenance, quality, supervision) to develop a comprehensive understanding of the entire manufacturing ecosystem.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, charting) and a foundational understanding of statistical methods for interpreting process data.
  • CAD Software: Basic to intermediate experience with 2D or 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or a similar platform for layout and design tasks.
  • Lean Principles: Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts (e.g., 5S, Waste Reduction, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke).
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including engineering drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and electrical schematics.
  • Problem-Solving Frameworks: Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies like Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5 Whys, or Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Actively enrolled in and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, having completed at least the sophomore year of study.
