Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Install, assemble, and commission new pneumatic and electropneumatic systems, components, and machinery according to complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Execute comprehensive diagnostic tests on malfunctioning pneumatic equipment to accurately identify root causes of failures, utilizing tools like pressure gauges, flow meters, multimeters, and PLC diagnostic software.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on a wide array of pneumatic assets, including industrial air compressors, air dryers, filters, regulators, and lubricators (FRLs), to ensure system reliability and prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble critical pneumatic components such as directional control valves, cylinders, actuators, and grippers, replacing worn or damaged seals, O-rings, and internal parts.
  • Read, interpret, and apply information from highly technical pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic schematics, P&ID diagrams, and service manuals to understand system logic and guide troubleshooting efforts.
  • Calibrate and fine-tune pneumatic system components, including pressure sensors, flow controls, and valve positioners, to meet precise operational specifications and optimize machine cycle times.
  • Conduct rigorous pressure decay and leak detection tests on pneumatic circuits and distribution lines to ensure system integrity, maximize energy efficiency, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Fabricate and install custom tubing and piping for pneumatic systems using various materials (e.g., copper, stainless steel, nylon), ensuring clean cuts, proper bending, and secure, leak-free connections.
  • Respond swiftly to emergency breakdown calls to diagnose and resolve critical pneumatic system failures, working under pressure to minimize production downtime and restore operations.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering and production teams to recommend system improvements, component upgrades, or circuit redesigns to enhance machine performance, reliability, and operator safety.
  • Meticulously document all maintenance activities, repair procedures, component replacements, and system modifications in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Adhere with unwavering commitment to all company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and especially Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before commencing any work on machinery.
  • Provide expert technical support and hands-on guidance to machine operators and junior maintenance personnel on the proper operation, daily checks, and care of pneumatic equipment.
  • Participate actively in the installation and startup of new production lines and automated equipment, taking lead responsibility for the pneumatic and fluid power aspects of the project.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues within electropneumatic systems, understanding the interface between PLCs, sensors, solenoids, and the mechanical components they control.

  • Manage and maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, fittings, seals, and tubing required for pneumatic system maintenance, and initiate purchase requisitions as needed.

  • Assist in training and mentoring apprentices or new maintenance team members on pneumatic principles, safety, and best-practice troubleshooting techniques.
  • Liaise with external vendors and technical support representatives to source specialized components, troubleshoot unique equipment issues, and stay current with new technology.
  • Operate workshop equipment such as grinders, drill presses, welders, and various hand tools to modify brackets, fabricate mounts, or perform minor repairs on machine components.
