Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Meticulously sort incoming letters, parcels, and other mail items according to specific delivery routes, postal codes, and service standards to ensure accurate and timely distribution.

- Collect outgoing mail from mailboxes, businesses, and collection boxes along the route, ensuring it is securely transported back to the post office for processing.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries about postal services, rates, and regulations in a friendly and professional manner.
- Handle customer complaints or delivery issues with patience and professionalism, aiming to find a satisfactory resolution or escalating the issue when necessary.
- Sell postage, stamps, and other postal products, accurately handling cash, credit, and debit transactions using a point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Manage and account for monies collected for Cash on Delivery (C.O.D.) items, ensuring all funds are reconciled and submitted correctly at the end of a shift.
- Load and unload mail sacks, trays, and parcels from postal vehicles and sorting equipment, often involving significant physical effort and lifting.
- Perform routine checks and light maintenance on the assigned delivery vehicle, such as checking fuel, oil, and tires, and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Use handheld scanning technology to track parcels and mail items at various points in the delivery process, providing real-time data for internal and customer-facing systems.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, attempted deliveries, and any unusual circumstances encountered on the route, such as blocked access or safety hazards.
- Forward mail for customers who have filed a change of address, ensuring items are rerouted correctly through the postal system.
- Stay informed about and adhere to all federal postal laws, regulations, and organizational policies to ensure the security and integrity of the mail.
- Work collaboratively with other postal officers, clerks, and supervisors to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow within the post office.
- Manage a physically demanding workload, including extensive walking, climbing stairs, and carrying heavy mailbags in various weather conditions.
