Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and rigorously maintain the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949.
  • Lead and champion continuous improvement initiatives across the facility, utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to drive waste reduction and enhance process capability.
  • Oversee the entire metrology and calibration program for all measurement and test equipment, ensuring instruments are consistently accurate and reliable for process control.
  • Drive complex root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for significant quality defects, production failures, and customer complaints, implementing robust and sustainable corrective actions (CAPA).
  • Analyze production, quality, and process data using statistical methods to identify negative trends, uncover hidden opportunities for improvement, and predict potential failures.
  • Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to process precision, such as First Pass Yield (FPY), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, and Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ).
  • Act as the primary liaison with suppliers to establish quality requirements for incoming materials and components, conducting supplier audits and managing the supplier corrective action process.
  • Manage and mentor a team of quality engineers, inspectors, and technicians, fostering their professional development and building a high-performance precision-focused culture.
  • Collaborate directly with R&D and Engineering teams during the New Product Introduction (NPI) process to define critical quality characteristics and develop comprehensive quality and inspection plans.
  • Utilize advanced data visualization tools (like Tableau or Power BI) to create compelling dashboards and reports that communicate process performance and project status to senior leadership.
  • Lead internal and external audits, serving as the main point of contact for customers and regulatory bodies to demonstrate compliance and showcase quality system robustness.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources to critical quality improvement projects, new technology, and training.
  • Champion the deployment of advanced quality and inspection technologies, such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), machine vision systems, and automated data collection tools.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams dedicated to resolving complex, systemic operational challenges that impact precision, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure that all process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), are clear, accurate, and consistently followed.
  • Translate high-level strategic business objectives into specific, measurable, and achievable precision and quality targets for the operations team.

  • Evaluate and benchmark industry best practices in quality management and precision manufacturing to keep the organization at the forefront of operational excellence.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC): Deep expertise in implementing and interpreting control charts, process capability studies (Cpk, Ppk), and statistical analysis to monitor and control processes.
  • Lean Six Sigma: Proven ability to lead improvement projects using DMAIC, DMADV, VSM, Kaizen, and other Lean Six Sigma tools. Green or Black Belt certification is highly valued.
  • Quality Management Systems (QMS): Thorough understanding and practical experience with implementing and auditing QMS standards like ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Mastery of structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Proficiency in using statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to analyze data and present findings.
  • Metrology & GD&T: Strong knowledge of measurement science, calibration systems, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt Certification.
