Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and control high-pressure pumps, blending units, and other hydraulic fracturing equipment according to engineered procedures and job design.
  • Meticulously rig up and rig down high-pressure treating lines, fluid transfer lines, and associated valves, ensuring all connections are secure and leak-free.
  • Accurately calculate and mix chemical additives, proppants, and drilling fluids, constantly monitoring densities and concentrations to meet job specifications.
  • Actively monitor real-time job parameters including pressures, flow rates, fluid densities, and sand concentrations, making immediate adjustments as required.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections on heavy vehicles and pumping equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, including pumps, engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems, to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues with equipment in the field, applying diagnostic skills to identify root causes and perform necessary repairs.
  • Maintain constant and clear communication with the crew, field supervisor, and client representative on location to ensure seamless job execution.
  • Uphold and champion all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures without exception, actively participating in safety meetings and JSA's.
  • Drive and operate heavy commercial vehicles to and from the well site, often in challenging off-road conditions, while adhering to all traffic laws.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, detailed documentation for each job, including service tickets, job logs, driver logs, and maintenance records.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables on the truck, ensuring the unit is always prepared for the next operation.
  • Perform hydrostatic pressure tests on equipment and treating lines before commencing any pumping operations to verify system integrity.
  • Assist in the mobilization of the entire frac spread, which includes spotting equipment on location according to the site layout plan.
  • Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment such as sand kings, chemical additive units, and hydration units integral to the pumping process.
  • Act as a designated spotter during equipment movement on a busy and congested well site to prevent collisions and ensure personnel safety.
  • Collect and handle fluid samples as required by the job program for quality control analysis by the on-site or lab technician.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization of the assigned equipment and worksite to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Train and mentor less experienced operators and field hands on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations or equipment failures, following established protocols to secure the site and mitigate risks.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of preventative maintenance schedules for the entire equipment fleet during yard days.
  • Provide constructive feedback to engineering and management teams on equipment performance and potential procedural improvements.
  • Participate actively in job safety analysis (JSA), pre-job toolbox talks, and post-job reviews to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support the logistics team by assisting with the loading and unloading of materials, chemicals, and equipment at the district yard.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate from a vocational or technical school in a relevant trade.

  • Industrial Maintenance

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-5 years of direct experience in oilfield services, specifically in a pressure pumping, cementing, or coiled tubing role.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience as a lead operator on a frac or stimulation crew. A valid, clean Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements is highly preferred and often required.
