Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production operators and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment through consistent coaching and feedback.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of a designated production process to ensure output targets, quality standards, and delivery deadlines are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Champion and enforce all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, conducting regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to maintain a zero-harm workplace.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to enhance process efficiency, reduce waste (scrap, rework, downtime), and lower production costs.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), First Pass Yield (FPY), and labor efficiency, analyzing data to identify negative trends and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage daily and weekly production schedules, allocating personnel, equipment, and material resources effectively to optimize workflow and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control protocols and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, GMP), collaborating with the Quality Assurance team to address any non-conformances and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis for production-related issues, including equipment failures, quality deviations, or safety incidents, and implement robust, sustainable solutions.
  • Manage employee performance through regular one-on-one meetings, formal performance reviews, and the creation of development plans to build capability within the team.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication across shifts, including detailed shift handovers, to ensure a seamless transition of operations and a shared understanding of priorities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely production records, logs, and reports, effectively communicating operational status, challenges, and performance metrics to senior management.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance department to schedule preventative maintenance and address equipment breakdowns promptly, minimizing impact on the production schedule.
  • Manage inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and necessary supplies within the process area to prevent stockouts or overages.
  • Lead pre-shift team meetings to communicate daily goals, safety topics, quality alerts, and other important updates to the production team, ensuring alignment and focus.
  • Train new and existing employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and the proper and safe use of all machinery and equipment.
  • Identify skill gaps and training needs within the team, working with HR and management to develop skills matrices and coordinate necessary training.
  • Manage and approve team member work schedules, including overtime assignments, vacation requests, and daily work assignments to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for resolving employee conflicts and grievances, promoting a positive, inclusive, and respectful team dynamic.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of new process or product introductions, ensuring a smooth and efficient integration onto the production floor.
  • Uphold and enforce 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready work area at all times.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure the timely availability of required materials and the smooth transfer of finished goods from the production line.
  • Provide input for the departmental budget by tracking and reporting on labor hours, material usage, and recommending potential cost-saving measures or capital investments.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma: Practical knowledge and application of principles like 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and DMAIC to drive process improvements.
  • Production Scheduling & Planning: Ability to create, manage, and adapt production schedules to meet changing demands and resource availability.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • ERP/MRP Systems: Experience using enterprise resource planning software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) for production orders, inventory, and reporting.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
