Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Direct and manage all plant production operations with overall responsibilities for safety, quality, production, maintenance, and other production-related activities.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive production plan and schedule to meet customer demands while optimizing resource utilization and minimizing costs.
- Champion a world-class safety culture by ensuring strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations, conducting regular safety audits and training.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the production team, including supervisors and floor staff, through effective performance management, coaching, and career development planning.
- Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), on-time delivery, cost per unit, and scrap rates.
- Manage the production budget, including forecasting financial requirements, preparing annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, and analyzing variances to initiate corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance department to uphold and enhance product quality standards, investigate non-conformances, and implement robust corrective actions.
- Oversee the management of raw material and finished goods inventory levels to ensure production continuity without incurring excessive carrying costs.
- Coordinate with the maintenance department to schedule preventative maintenance for all production equipment, minimizing downtime and maximizing machinery lifespan.
- Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sales, to align production with business-wide objectives.
- Analyze production data and operational reports to identify trends, pinpoint bottlenecks, and develop strategic solutions for improving efficiency and output.
- Lead the new product introduction (NPI) process on the manufacturing floor, ensuring a smooth transition from design to full-scale production.
- Ensure all production activities comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Develop and maintain standardized work instructions, process documentation, and training materials for all production roles and procedures.
- Resolve escalated production issues and conflicts in a timely and effective manner, making critical decisions to keep operations running smoothly.
- Evaluate and recommend investments in new technology, machinery, and automation to improve production capabilities and reduce long-term operational costs.
- Manage staff scheduling, including shift patterns, overtime allocation, and vacation planning, to ensure adequate coverage for all production demands.
- Conduct regular team meetings and floor walks to maintain open communication, address employee concerns, and drive engagement across the production floor.
- Prepare and present detailed production performance reports and strategic updates to senior management, providing clear insights and actionable recommendations.
- Champion and manage capital expenditure projects for the production department, from initial justification and ROI analysis to final implementation and commissioning.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers in collaboration with the procurement team to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply of raw materials.
