Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing agents and buyers, setting clear performance objectives, providing ongoing coaching, and conducting regular performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team environment.
  • Oversee the entire purchase order lifecycle, from requisition and sourcing to final receipt and payment, ensuring accuracy, adherence to policy, and timely fulfillment of organizational needs.
  • Develop, implement, and refine strategic sourcing strategies to optimize purchasing power, improve quality, and ensure a stable and reliable supply of critical materials and services.
  • Establish and cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers and strategic partners, leading negotiations for favorable terms, pricing, and master supply agreements.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance reviews, utilizing scorecards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor quality, delivery, and cost, driving continuous improvement and mitigating supply chain risks.
  • Analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and economic conditions to anticipate changes in material availability and costs, making proactive adjustments to procurement strategies to protect the business.
  • Act as the primary escalation point to manage and resolve complex procurement issues, including significant supplier disputes, critical quality discrepancies, and major delivery delays, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
  • Drive and document cost-saving initiatives by identifying opportunities for supplier consolidation, volume discounts, value engineering, and process efficiencies without compromising quality or service levels.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance departments, to deeply understand their requirements and align purchasing activities with project timelines and business goals.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities strictly adhere to company policies, ethical standards, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, import/export compliance).
  • Supervise the maintenance and integrity of the approved vendor list (AVL), including the rigorous qualification, evaluation, and onboarding process for new potential suppliers.
  • Monitor and help manage inventory levels for key direct and indirect materials, working with inventory control teams to execute strategies that prevent stockouts and minimize excess or obsolete stock.
  • Champion the effective use of procurement systems (e.g., ERP, e-sourcing platforms), ensuring data integrity and leveraging system capabilities to streamline processes and enhance reporting.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on procurement metrics—such as cost savings, purchase price variance (PPV), supplier performance, and spend analysis—to senior management.
  • Lead or actively participate in cross-functional teams focused on New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring a seamless and cost-effective transition from development to full-scale production from a supply chain perspective.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget for the purchasing team, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and alignment with financial targets.
  • Implement and enforce risk management protocols within the supply chain, proactively identifying potential vulnerabilities (e.g., single-source suppliers, geopolitical risks) and developing robust contingency plans.
  • Oversee the formal competitive bidding process, including the strategic preparation of Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Quotations (RFQs), and guide the team in the subsequent evaluation and selection of supplier responses.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in procurement processes by applying lean principles, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage the procurement of complex categories such as capital equipment (CapEx), high-value services, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) supplies, ensuring maximum value and alignment with project timelines.
  • Train the purchasing team on advanced negotiation techniques, contract fundamentals, system usage, and departmental procedures to foster a highly skilled and knowledgeable team.
  • Vet and process purchase requisitions, verifying specifications and requirements, and convert them into purchase orders with a high degree of accuracy.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
