The QC Intern collaborates directly with quality technicians, engineers, and production teams to identify, document, and help resolve quality issues. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct thorough in-process inspections and tests on components and finished products at various stages of the production cycle to ensure they meet precise specifications.
  • Assist in the detailed inspection and testing of incoming raw materials and components, verifying they conform to purchase order specifications and quality standards before release to manufacturing.
  • Meticulously document inspection results, test data, and observations in quality logs, databases, and official batch records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Support the investigation of non-conforming materials and products by collecting data, performing initial analysis, and documenting findings for the root cause analysis team.
  • Operate and maintain basic measurement and inspection equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and vision systems, ensuring their proper function and calibration status.
  • Review and verify production documentation and manufacturing batch records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Assist in the creation, revision, and management of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other critical quality control documentation.
  • Prepare and organize product samples for various purposes, including laboratory testing, customer evaluation, and long-term retention archives, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
  • Monitor production lines and processes to identify potential quality risks or deviations from standard procedures, reporting observations to senior quality staff in a timely manner.
  • Generate and compile data for daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports, summarizing key metrics such as defect rates, first-pass yield, and inspection outcomes.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and continuous improvement projects, providing input and support for initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and process efficiency.
  • Assist senior personnel in performing equipment calibration and validation activities, documenting the results to ensure all instruments are within their specified tolerances.
  • Communicate effectively with production operators and supervisors to provide feedback on quality issues and clarify quality requirements for specific tasks.
  • Support the material review board (MRB) process by preparing documentation for non-conforming products and tracking the disposition of quarantined materials.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment within the quality lab and on the production floor, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Aid in the preparation and execution of internal and external audits by gathering necessary documentation, organizing records, and supporting the audit response team.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis to uncover trends or insights related to product quality and manufacturing performance.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap by providing feedback on data collection methods and quality reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements, particularly for quality tracking and reporting systems.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team if quality projects are managed within that framework.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Measurement Tools: Proficiency or ability to quickly learn the use of precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Strong capability in using Microsoft Excel for data entry, creating charts, and basic analysis, as well as Word and PowerPoint for documentation and presentations.
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical documents, including engineering drawings, blueprints, and product specifications.
  • Data Entry & Management: High accuracy and speed in entering data into quality management systems (QMS) or databases.
  • Basic Statistics: A fundamental understanding of statistical concepts like mean, median, standard deviation, and charting for process control.
  • Quality Principles: Familiarity with core quality concepts such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO 9001, or other relevant industry standards.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Currently enrolled in and actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a sophomore or junior standing in a relevant technical or scientific discipline.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Chemistry, Biology, or other Physical Sciences
  • Operations Management or Business Administration

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-1 years. This is an entry-level internship; no prior professional experience is required.

Preferred:

  • Previous coursework in statistics, quality management, or process control.
  • Hands-on experience in a lab or workshop environment (academic or personal projects).
  • Familiarity with a manufacturing or regulated environment is a strong plus.
