Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct a comprehensive range of physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Accurately document all test results, observations, and procedural deviations in laboratory notebooks and the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in real-time.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on sophisticated laboratory instrumentation such as spectrophotometers, chromatographs (HPLC/GC), viscometers, titrators, and moisture analyzers.
- Immediately identify, quarantine, and report any out-of-specification (OOS) or non-conforming materials and products to the Quality Supervisor for further investigation.
- Prepare and standardize chemical reagents, solutions, and microbiological media required for daily analytical testing, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
- Perform environmental monitoring within the manufacturing facility, including ATP swabbing, water sampling, and air quality testing, to ensure a sanitary production environment.
- Maintain the laboratory in a clean, organized, and safe manner, adhering to 5S principles, GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), and all company safety protocols.
- Place holds on finished products that do not meet quality standards and assist in the disposition process, including rework or rejection protocols.
- Review production batch records for completeness and accuracy, verifying that all in-process quality checks were performed and documented correctly.
- Collect and properly log incoming samples from production, receiving, and R&D, ensuring a clear chain of custody is maintained at all times.
- Perform sensory evaluations (e.g., taste, color, odor, appearance) on products as required by specific industry standards, such as in food and beverage manufacturing.
- Execute stability testing protocols by pulling samples at specified intervals and performing required tests to assess product shelf life and integrity over time.
- Verify the proper setup and cleanliness of production lines before startup, performing sanitation checks and line clearance approvals.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the investigation of customer complaints by retrieving retain samples and performing targeted analytical testing to help determine the root cause.
- Participate actively in root cause analysis (RCA) teams for internal non-conformances, providing data-driven insights and suggestions for corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Support the validation of new test methods and the qualification of new laboratory equipment under the guidance of senior quality personnel or engineers.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes by suggesting updates to SOPs, test methods, and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage the inventory of laboratory consumables, chemicals, and supplies, initiating purchase requisitions to prevent stock-outs of critical items.
- Provide training and guidance to new technicians or production operators on specific quality control checks, testing procedures, and proper sampling techniques.
- Compile and analyze quality data to generate trend reports, charts, and summaries for daily, weekly, and monthly quality review meetings.
- Participate in internal and third-party audits (e.g., FDA, ISO, SQF) by providing documentation, explaining lab procedures, and ensuring the lab is audit-ready.
