Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, execute, and meticulously document complex experiments and analytical procedures to test hypotheses and validate new product formulations or technological concepts.
  • Lead all phases of R&D projects from initial ideation and feasibility studies through to development, scale-up, and technology transfer to manufacturing.
  • Analyze, interpret, and synthesize large, complex datasets using statistical methods and advanced software, translating raw data into actionable insights and clear, concise reports.

  • Identify and evaluate external research partners, contract research organizations (CROs), and new technology vendors to augment internal capabilities.
  • Prepare and refine technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch records, and technology transfer packages.
  • Champion and implement laboratory safety protocols, actively participating in safety audits and promoting a culture of safety-first within the R&D team.
  • Drive the innovation pipeline by actively brainstorming and proposing new project ideas that align with the company's strategic goals and address unmet market needs.
  • Characterize the physical, chemical, and/or biological properties of materials and formulations to establish critical-to-quality attributes and performance metrics.
  • Support the scale-up of laboratory processes to pilot and production scales, working closely with process engineers to ensure process robustness and reproducibility.
  • Participate in and contribute to customer-facing discussions, providing deep technical expertise to support the sales and business development teams.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Experimental Design (DoE): Proficiency in designing, executing, and analyzing complex experiments, often using statistical software like JMP, Minitab, or R.
  • Analytical Instrumentation: Hands-on experience with a range of analytical techniques relevant to the field (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, Spectroscopy, Rheology, PCR, Flow Cytometry, Microscopy).
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Strong ability to process, analyze, and visualize scientific data using tools such as Python (with Pandas/Matplotlib), R, or other dedicated software.
  • Scientific Documentation: Expertise in writing clear and concise technical reports, SOPs, patents, and scientific publications.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-specific regulatory environments, such as GMP, GLP, and ISO standards.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage project timelines, resources, and risks from conception to completion.
  • Formulation Science: Proven experience in developing and optimizing complex formulations (e.g., emulsions, suspensions, polymers, cell media).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and/or a portfolio of filed or granted patents is a significant advantage.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food & beverage) is highly desirable.
