Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and efficiently lift, load, unload, and transport passenger luggage, mail, and cargo between aircraft, baggage carts, and terminal conveyor systems, often handling items weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Operate a diverse range of motorized and non-motorized Ground Support Equipment (GSE), including baggage tugs, belt loaders, pushback tractors, and passenger stairs, with precision and strict adherence to all airfield safety regulations.
  • Marshal aircraft during arrival and departure operations, using internationally recognized hand signals to guide the flight crew safely to and from the gate.
  • Perform aircraft pushback and towing procedures, connecting and disconnecting tow bars and other equipment to safely reposition aircraft on the ramp and prepare for taxi.

  • Sort and route baggage and cargo to their correct destinations, reading and interpreting baggage tags and load instructions to prevent mishandling.
  • Conduct thorough walk-around inspections of the aircraft's exterior upon arrival and before departure to identify and report any visible damage or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Position and remove chocks, safety cones, and wing-walkers around the aircraft to ensure its stability and create a safe zone for ground operations.
  • Connect and disconnect ground power units (GPU), pre-conditioned air (PCA) hoses, and potable water lines to the aircraft to service the cabin and systems while at the gate.
  • Ensure the secure and proper loading of cargo and baggage in the aircraft's compartments according to the loadmaster's plan, adhering to critical weight and balance specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment on the ramp, in bag rooms, and around the gate area, including the removal of foreign object debris (FOD) to prevent aircraft engine damage.
  • Communicate effectively with the flight deck crew, gate agents, and fellow ground personnel via headset and radio to ensure a coordinated and timely aircraft turnaround.
  • Adhere rigorously to all company, airport, and federal (FAA) safety regulations and procedures to mitigate risks and maintain a secure working environment.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform aircraft de-icing and anti-icing procedures using specialized vehicles and fluid application techniques during inclement winter weather conditions.
  • Service aircraft lavatories and potable water systems, following strict sanitation and handling protocols.
  • Conduct routine pre-use inspections and light maintenance on GSE to ensure all equipment is in safe, working order, reporting any defects immediately.
  • Assist with the offloading and handling of special assistance items, such as passenger wheelchairs, strollers, and mobility devices, with care and respect.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements
