Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely operate a commercial ready-mix concrete truck in compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any maintenance or repair needs to ensure the truck is in safe operating condition.
Receive and interpret delivery instructions from dispatch, verifying load information and ticket details before leaving the plant.
Drive the ready mix truck to customer job sites, navigating through diverse traffic conditions and challenging construction site environments.
Effectively position the truck at the job site to facilitate the pour, often in tight spaces and on uneven terrain.
Operate the truck’s mixer drum controls to mix the concrete to the proper consistency and prevent it from hardening during transit.
Professionally interact with contractors and customers on-site to ensure their delivery expectations are met, confirming the designated pour location and any specific instructions.
Safely discharge the concrete from the mixer, which may involve attaching and maneuvering heavy chutes (up to 50 lbs each).
Monitor the concrete slump and quality during the pour, adding water or other admixtures as authorized and instructed.
Effectively communicate with the customer and dispatch regarding job site conditions, delays, or any potential issues that may arise.
Perform basic washout procedures in designated areas (on-site or back at the plant) to clean the mixer drum and chutes, adhering to all environmental regulations.
Collect payments from customers when required and ensure all delivery paperwork (tickets) is completed accurately and signed by the customer.
Maintain the cleanliness of the truck, both interior and exterior, to present a professional company image.
Adhere to all job site safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and identifying potential hazards.
Manage delivery times effectively to maintain a tight schedule for a time-sensitive product.

Secondary Functions

Assist with general yard and plant maintenance during downtime, including cleaning, organizing, and other assigned duties.
Provide support to plant operators or other personnel as needed to ensure efficient plant operations.
Participate actively in all company safety meetings, training sessions, and initiatives.
Mentor and provide guidance to new or less-experienced drivers when asked.
Communicate any customer feedback, complaints, or service opportunities back to dispatch or management.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL): A Class A or Class B CDL is mandatory, often with an air brake endorsement.
Vehicle Operation: Proven ability to safely operate heavy commercial trucks, particularly in off-road or construction site conditions.
