Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Meticulously unload, sort, and stage inbound freight from delivery trucks, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of all products and materials.
- Systematically verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, or packing slips to confirm accuracy, checking for shortages, overages, or incorrect items.
- Conduct thorough inspections of all delivered goods for damage, defects, or tampering, and accurately document any discrepancies for claims processing.
- Utilize RF (Radio Frequency) scanning equipment to accurately receive products into the inventory management system (WMS), ensuring real-time data integrity.
- Prepare and apply labels, price tags, or other identification to merchandise as required, ensuring compliance with company standards before moving it to the sales floor or storage.
- Operate material handling equipment such as manual/electric pallet jacks, dollies, and hand trucks safely and efficiently to move stock within the receiving and backroom areas.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving dock and backroom storage area, adhering to all safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Process and document all merchandise returns to vendors (RTVs), ensuring items are correctly packaged, labeled, and prepared for shipment.
- Effectively communicate with truck drivers, vendors, and internal departments (e.g., Inventory, Merchandising) to resolve any shipping or receiving issues.
- Manage and file all receiving-related paperwork, including bills of lading, packing lists, and discrepancy reports, ensuring a clear and auditable trail.
- Break down and dispose of cardboard, shrink wrap, and other packaging materials in designated recycling and waste receptacles.
- Collaborate with the inventory control team to perform cycle counts and assist in regular physical inventory audits to maintain stock accuracy.
- Ensure all high-value or sensitive items are received and secured according to specific loss prevention and security protocols.
- Monitor the receiving schedule to anticipate inbound deliveries and effectively plan workload and space allocation for the shift.
- Move received and processed inventory from the receiving area to its designated back-stock location or directly to the sales floor.
- Accurately enter and update data in the company's ERP or warehouse management system to reflect received goods and inventory adjustments.
- Proactively identify and report potential safety hazards or process inefficiencies within the receiving area to management.
- Assist in the preparation of outbound shipments, including picking, packing, and staging orders when cross-functional support is needed.
- Follow established procedures for handling hazardous materials, ensuring all compliance and safety measures are strictly observed.
- Provide exceptional service by promptly responding to inquiries from sales floor associates regarding incoming product status or location.
- Support the broader store or warehouse team by assisting with stocking, replenishment, and general tasks as directed by leadership.

- Material Handling Equipment Operation: Certified or able to be certified to safely operate equipment like pallet jacks, forklifts, and stock pickers.
