Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, plan, and implement a diverse and comprehensive calendar of recreational programs, special events, classes, and activities catering to various age groups, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Conduct community-wide needs assessments, surveys, and focus groups to identify public interest, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform future program development and resource allocation.
- Lead and instruct a variety of recreational classes and workshops, demonstrating proper techniques and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of special events, from conceptualization and logistical planning to on-site execution and post-event evaluation, including large-scale community festivals and tournaments.
- Prepare and manage program-specific budgets, monitor expenditures, process purchase orders, and ensure adherence to financial policies and revenue generation goals.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and provide daily supervision and mentorship for part-time staff, seasonal employees, contract instructors, and volunteers.
- Develop and implement creative marketing and promotional strategies, including creating digital content, social media posts, press releases, and print materials to maximize program visibility and participation.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with community members, school districts, local businesses, and non-profit organizations to foster partnerships and collaborative programming.
- Ensure the safety of all program participants by conducting routine facility and equipment inspections, enforcing safety rules, and implementing risk management protocols.
- Administer and maintain registration processes, databases, and records using recreation management software, tracking attendance, revenue, and participant data.
- Respond effectively to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints with a high level of professionalism and customer service, providing accurate information and resolving issues promptly.
- Evaluate the success of programs and events by collecting and analyzing participant feedback, attendance metrics, and financial performance data to generate comprehensive reports.
- Secure necessary permits, licenses, and insurance for facilities, programs, and special events, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of all recreational supplies and equipment, making recommendations for new purchases or replacements as needed.
- Develop and adapt recreational programs to be inclusive and accessible for individuals with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities, in accordance with ADA guidelines.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and proposals for senior management and community stakeholders on program status, outcomes, and future initiatives.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the organization at community meetings, outreach fairs, and professional conferences to promote the value of public recreation.
- Stay current with emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in the parks and recreation field to continuously improve and modernize program offerings.
- Handle on-site emergencies by administering first aid, CPR, or AED as necessary and following established emergency action plans.
- Coordinate facility scheduling and rentals, ensuring efficient use of community centers, parks, fields, and other recreational spaces.
- Assist in the development of long-range strategic plans for the department, contributing insights on community needs and future programming opportunities.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:

- Experience working for a municipal parks and recreation department, non-profit organization, or community center. A Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) credential is a strong plus. Experience supervising staff or volunteers is highly desirable.
