Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, champion, and execute comprehensive regional sourcing strategies for assigned commodities (e.g., electronics, interiors, powertrain, chassis) to achieve ambitious cost reduction, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Lead the end-to-end supplier selection and qualification process, conducting deep-dive evaluations of supplier capabilities, financial health, and operational excellence to build a world-class supply base.
  • Spearhead and conduct complex negotiations for multi-year contracts, master supply agreements (MSAs), and statements of work (SOWs), focusing on total cost of ownership (TCO), risk mitigation, and favorable commercial terms.
  • Act as the primary commercial owner for the supplier relationship, managing the entire supplier lifecycle from onboarding to performance management, including conducting quarterly business reviews and fostering strategic partnerships.
  • Drive significant cost-saving initiatives by leading value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) workshops, deploying competitive bidding events, and utilizing advanced negotiation tactics.
  • Conduct in-depth market intelligence research and sophisticated cost modeling to thoroughly understand price drivers, identify emerging trends, and benchmark performance against the best in the industry.
  • Serve as the procurement lead on New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, collaborating closely with Engineering, Quality, and Program Management to ensure components are sourced on time, within budget, and to precise specifications.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks by developing robust contingency plans, evaluating supplier capacity, and championing dual-sourcing or resourcing strategies where appropriate.
  • Manage the entire RFQ/RFP/RFI process, performing meticulous analysis of supplier quotations and proposals, and presenting clear, data-driven sourcing recommendations to leadership committees.
  • Take decisive ownership in resolving critical and complex supply chain disruptions, quality crises, and commercial disputes with suppliers, ensuring minimal impact on production.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on a wide array of key performance indicators (KPIs), including purchase price variance (PPV), supplier on-time delivery, quality PPM, and implement effective corrective action plans.
  • Manage tooling and capital expenditure negotiations, including payment schedules and asset tracking associated with new component sourcing projects.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities are conducted with the highest level of integrity and are in strict compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and governmental regulations.

  • Cost Analysis & Financial Acumen: Strong skills in total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, should-cost modeling, and reading supplier financial statements.

  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Demonstrated ability to segment, manage, and develop suppliers as strategic partners.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Education:

  • Professional certification such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management).

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 5-10 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or commodity management.

Preferred: Direct experience within an automotive OEM or a Tier 1 supplier is highly desirable. A proven track record of managing a significant spend portfolio for technical commodities and delivering tangible cost savings is essential. Experience working in a regional or global capacity is a strong plus.
