Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and supervise the overall operations of the rehabilitation department, ensuring the seamless and efficient delivery of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology services.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical programs and protocols to enhance patient outcomes, improve functional independence, and ensure the delivery of evidence-based, state-of-the-art care.
  • Manage all aspects of departmental staffing, including forecasting needs, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new therapists and support personnel to maintain optimal staffing levels.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development through mentorship and training opportunities.
  • Oversee the clinical education and supervision of therapy students, acting as a liaison with academic institutions to ensure a high-quality learning experience.
  • Ensure all departmental activities and documentation adhere to federal (HIPAA, Medicare), state, and local regulations, as well as professional practice standards and company policies.
  • Actively manage departmental budget, monitor financial performance against key metrics (revenue, expenses, productivity), and develop strategies for cost-effective service delivery.
  • Champion the facility's and department's mission and vision, fostering a positive, team-oriented culture that prioritizes patient-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the therapy department, facility administration, nursing staff, physicians, and other key stakeholders to promote integrated care.
  • Lead departmental meetings to disseminate information, discuss clinical challenges, and facilitate team-based problem-solving and program development.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, length of stay, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes, implementing action plans for improvement where necessary.
  • Oversee the scheduling of patients and staff to maximize resource utilization and ensure timely access to care, adapting to fluctuating census and patient needs.
  • Play an active role in business development and marketing efforts, building relationships with referral sources and promoting the value of the facility’s rehabilitation services in the community.
  • Manage billing and reimbursement processes, ensuring that therapy documentation accurately supports the medical necessity and skilled nature of services provided to maximize reimbursement.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance audits of clinical documentation, treatment plans, and billing practices to maintain compliance and identify areas for staff education.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree from an accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current, active state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).

Preferred Education:

  • Doctorate in a therapeutic discipline (DPT, OTD).
  • Master's in Healthcare Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA) is a strong plus.
