Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform selective demolition of interior and exterior structures, including drywall, flooring, cabinetry, and non-load-bearing walls, using hand and power tools with a focus on precision and dust control.
- Maintain an impeccably clean, organized, and safe job site by systematically removing debris, sweeping floors, organizing tools, and properly disposing of waste materials in accordance with safety standards.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment across the job site, ensuring they are staged efficiently for skilled tradespeople to access.
- Provide direct, hands-on assistance to carpenters, electricians, and plumbers by fetching tools, holding materials in place, making basic cuts, and anticipating their next steps to maximize productivity.
- Assist in the framing of walls, floors, and ceilings by measuring, cutting, and assembling wood or metal studs as directed by the lead carpenter.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing, which includes sanding, scraping, patching drywall, filling holes, and applying primer to walls, trim, and ceilings.
- Execute basic painting duties using brushes, rollers, and sprayers to apply finish coats of paint with clean lines and even coverage.
- Support the installation of flooring materials, such as laminate, vinyl plank, and tile, by preparing the subfloor, cutting pieces to size, and assisting with layout.
- Assist in the installation of doors, windows, trim, and baseboards, ensuring accurate measurements and a precise fit.
- Help with the assembly and installation of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, hardware, and fixtures under the supervision of a senior installer.
- Perform basic concrete work, including mixing, pouring, and finishing small pads or footings for decks and additions.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, such as drills, impact drivers, circular saws, miter saws, and grinders, in a safe and proficient manner.
- Follow all company and industry safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves.
- Assist in setting up and dismantling scaffolding, ladders, and other temporary structures required for accessing different areas of the project.
- Support basic plumbing tasks, such as cutting and fitting PVC or PEX pipes and assisting with the installation of sinks, toilets, and faucets.
- Aid in basic electrical work, including pulling wires, installing outlet boxes, and assisting with the installation of light fixtures under licensed supervision.
- Protect client property and non-work areas by carefully laying down drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and floor protection before work begins.
- Read and interpret basic blueprints and construction drawings to understand project layout and assist in material take-offs.
- Perform weatherproofing and insulation tasks, including installing vapor barriers, house wrap, and batt or spray foam insulation.
- Communicate effectively with the site supervisor, reporting any issues, safety concerns, or progress updates in a timely manner.
- Conduct final site cleanup and punch-list tasks, including detailed cleaning, touch-up painting, and ensuring the project is client-ready.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of job site supplies and materials, notifying the project manager when items need to be reordered.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with final project walkthroughs, taking notes and performing minor adjustments or touch-ups as identified by the client or project manager.
- Run errands to pick up materials or supplies from local vendors to prevent project delays.
- Interface professionally with clients on-site for minor requests or questions, and relaying important information to the site supervisor.
- Participate in daily team meetings to review the day's objectives, safety topics, and coordinate tasks with the rest of the crew.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Power Tool Proficiency: Safe and effective operation of common construction tools such as circular saws, miter saws, drills, and reciprocating saws.
- Accurate Measurements: Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16th of an inch and perform basic construction math.
- Basic Carpentry: Foundational knowledge of wood framing, cutting, and assembly techniques.
- Drywall Repair: Experience with patching, taping, mudding, and sanding drywall to create a smooth, paint-ready surface.
