Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Demand Forecasting & Analysis: Meticulously analyze historical sales data, market trends, seasonality, and promotional activity to generate accurate demand forecasts for assigned product categories.
  2. Purchase Order Management: Proactively generate, review, and execute purchase orders based on system recommendations and analytical insights to maintain optimal inventory levels across the network.
  3. Inventory Optimization: Continuously monitor and manage inventory parameters, including safety stock, reorder points, and min/max levels, to balance service levels against inventory holding costs.
  4. Supplier Collaboration & Performance: Serve as a primary point of contact for suppliers regarding order placement, lead times, and delivery schedules, while monitoring and reporting on vendor performance metrics.
  5. Stock Availability Management: Drive high in-stock rates and product availability by identifying potential stock-outs in advance and implementing corrective actions, such as expediting shipments or adjusting allocations.
  6. Slow-Moving & Obsolete (SLOB) Inventory Reduction: Identify slow-moving and at-risk obsolete inventory, performing root cause analysis and collaborating with Merchandising and Sales teams to develop and execute disposition strategies.
  7. System Parameter Maintenance: Ensure the integrity of replenishment and inventory data within the ERP and other planning systems, regularly auditing and updating key parameters to reflect current business realities.
  8. Promotional & Seasonal Planning: Partner with cross-functional teams to plan and execute inventory build strategies for promotional events, new product launches, and seasonal peaks, ensuring product availability while minimizing residual stock.
  9. KPI Reporting & Performance Tracking: Develop, maintain, and distribute key performance indicator (KPI) reports, including inventory turns, fill rates, forecast accuracy, and in-stock percentage, providing commentary on trends and performance drivers.
  10. Root Cause Analysis: Investigate inventory discrepancies, service level failures, and forecast variances to identify underlying causes and recommend sustainable, long-term process improvements.
  11. Inbound Flow Monitoring: Track inbound purchase orders from creation to receipt, proactively communicating any potential delays or disruptions to internal stakeholders to manage expectations and mitigate impact.
  12. Allocation & Distribution Strategy: Analyze performance across different locations or channels to inform and execute inventory allocation strategies, ensuring equitable and effective distribution of stock.
  13. Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a key liaison between Supply Chain, Merchandising, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, and Sales to ensure alignment on inventory strategies and resolve operational issues.
  14. Process Improvement Initiatives: Actively participate in and contribute to projects aimed at enhancing replenishment processes, tools, and systems to drive greater efficiency and accuracy.
  15. Open-to-Buy (OTB) Management: Provide critical data and analysis to support the management of Open-to-Buy budgets, ensuring purchasing decisions align with financial plans.
  16. New Product Introduction Support: Collaborate on the inventory planning for new item launches, from initial buy quantity recommendations to setting up replenishment parameters post-launch.
  17. Data Modeling & Scenario Planning: Utilize data modeling techniques to conduct "what-if" analyses, evaluating the potential inventory impact of different demand scenarios, supply disruptions, or strategic initiatives.
  18. Exception Management: Actively manage system-generated exceptions, such as potential stock-outs or overstocks, by investigating the issue and taking decisive action.
  19. Lifecycle Management: Analyze product performance throughout its lifecycle and adjust replenishment strategies accordingly, from launch and growth to maturity and end-of-life.
  20. Reporting & Communication: Clearly and effectively communicate inventory status, risks, and opportunities to leadership and other business partners through regular reporting and presentations.

Secondary Functions

  • Support new store openings or product launch initiatives with targeted inventory planning and allocation strategies.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving overall supply chain efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior team members or inventory coordinators on systems and processes.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Proficiency: Mastery of complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/INDEX MATCH, Power Query, and data modeling is essential.
  • ERP/WMS Systems Experience: Hands-on experience with major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JDA/Blue Yonder, Manhattan).
  • Demand Planning Software: Proficiency with specialized forecasting and inventory management software (e.g., Logility, o9 Solutions, Kinaxis) is highly valued.
  • Statistical Analysis: Strong ability to apply statistical methods to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and generate accurate forecasts.
