Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide consistent, direct supervision and compassionate support to residents in a therapeutic residential setting, ensuring their physical and emotional safety at all times.
  • Actively implement and support individual treatment plans, behavior support plans, and safety plans as developed by the clinical team, documenting progress toward goals.
  • Skillfully utilize crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and emotional escalations in a calm, non-judgmental, and therapeutic manner.
  • Teach, model, and reinforce essential independent living skills, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, chore completion, financial literacy, and pro-social communication.
  • Accurately administer, document, and manage resident medications in strict accordance with physician orders, agency protocols, and state regulations.
  • Plan and facilitate structured, engaging, and therapeutic recreational and social activities designed to build skills, self-esteem, and positive peer relationships.
  • Maintain meticulous, objective, and timely documentation, including daily progress notes, communication logs, incident reports, and other required paperwork using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative group living environment by mediating conflicts, promoting teamwork, and modeling healthy interpersonal boundaries.
  • Provide safe transportation for residents to and from appointments, school, community outings, and other required activities using an agency vehicle.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, building rapport and a trusting therapeutic relationship with each resident through active listening and consistent, supportive engagement.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and walkthroughs of the facility to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained living environment, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, clinical case reviews, and professional development trainings to ensure continuity of care and enhance your clinical skills.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with residents' families, guardians, case managers, and other external stakeholders to coordinate care and provide updates.
  • Assist residents in developing and practicing coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional triggers in a healthy and constructive way.

Secondary Functions

  • Support residents in achieving academic or vocational goals, providing homework assistance or job readiness coaching as needed.
  • Manage and document household and resident funds, including petty cash and resident allowances, with complete accuracy and integrity.
  • Contribute to the planning and preparation of nutritious meals, adhering to any specific dietary needs or restrictions of the residents.
  • Assist in the intake and orientation process for new residents, helping them acclimate to the program, staff, and their new environment.
  • Ensure the facility remains in compliance with all state licensing regulations, health codes, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and management teams to provide feedback and insight into the development and refinement of program-wide therapeutic strategies.
  • Participate in community outreach and relationship-building activities to connect residents with local resources and opportunities.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of professional experience working directly with individuals in a human services capacity (e.g., mental health, developmental disabilities, substance use, at-risk youth).

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a residential treatment facility, group home, or direct care setting is strongly preferred. Experience working with the specific population served by the facility (e.g., adolescents, adults with autism) is highly desirable.
