Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments to verify accuracy against purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.
  • Accurately count, scan, and log merchandise into inventory management or POS systems in accordance with company procedures.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, damages, shortages, or overages and communicate findings to management and vendors.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts to move merchandise.
  • Sort, label, and organize products in the receiving area to ensure efficient storage and retrieval.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant receiving and stockroom environment.
  • Prepare merchandise for the sales floor, including ticketing, tagging, folding, and packaging as required.
  • Coordinate with merchandising and sales teams to prioritize floor replenishment and product availability.
  • Process vendor deliveries, returns, and transfers following established inventory control procedures.
  • Follow loss prevention guidelines to safeguard merchandise and reduce shrink.
  • Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and physical inventories to ensure data accuracy.
  • Ensure timely processing of freight to support promotional launches, seasonal resets, and peak sales periods.
  • Monitor inventory flow to prevent backroom congestion and optimize storage capacity.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding safety, quality standards, and operational compliance.
  • Support store opening and closing procedures related to receiving and backroom operations.
  • Communicate effectively with store leadership regarding shipment status, delays, or operational issues.
  • Use basic reporting tools to track receiving productivity and inventory movement.
  • Adapt to fluctuating workloads, including early mornings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Assist other departments with stocking, replenishment, or recovery during high-volume periods.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to systems, safety protocols, and operational best practices.
