Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own and manage the entire end-to-end revenue accounting cycle, ensuring strict adherence to US GAAP and ASC 606 guidelines for all revenue streams, including software, SaaS, professional services, and subscriptions.
  • Spearhead the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, including the detailed review of journal entries, complex account reconciliations (deferred revenue, unbilled AR), and robust flux analyses to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Serve as the company's primary subject matter expert on ASC 606, providing technical accounting guidance on complex revenue arrangements and documenting positions in comprehensive accounting memos.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of revenue accountants, fostering a collaborative environment, providing regular performance feedback, and supporting their professional growth.
  • Act as a key business partner to the Sales, Legal, and Sales Operations teams, actively participating in the review and negotiation of non-standard customer contracts to assess revenue recognition implications upfront.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls over the revenue process to ensure SOX compliance, including performing control testing and remediation as necessary.
  • Drive the continuous improvement and automation of revenue accounting processes by identifying inefficiencies and partnering with IT and Business Systems teams to optimize ERP and revenue management systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Zuora, RevPro).
  • Manage the calculation, analysis, and accounting for sales commissions in accordance with ASC 606, including capitalization of contract costs and subsequent amortization.
  • Perform and review technical revenue analyses, including standalone selling price (SSP) analysis, contract modifications, and variable consideration assessments.
  • Prepare and present detailed revenue reporting packages and dashboards for senior management and the executive team, providing clear insights into revenue trends, performance against forecast, and key metrics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all revenue-related inquiries from external and internal auditors, managing audit requests and ensuring a smooth and efficient audit process.
  • Oversee the integrity of data flowing into the revenue recognition system from upstream sources like Salesforce (CRM) and other billing platforms.
  • Review and approve billing and invoicing processes to ensure they align with contractual terms and revenue recognition policies.
  • Collaborate closely with the FP&A team to support revenue forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, providing historical data and insights into future revenue expectations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of revenue policies, procedures, and internal controls for training and compliance purposes.
  • Analyze the impact of new product introductions or changes in pricing and packaging strategies on revenue recognition and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Manage the accounting for professional services revenue, including tracking project progress and recognizing revenue based on proportional performance or other appropriate methods.
  • Reconcile and manage the company's deferred revenue and contract asset/liability balances, ensuring they accurately reflect future obligations and rights.
  • Participate in due diligence for potential M&A activities, focusing on the target company's revenue streams, accounting policies, and contractual obligations.
  • Stay current on new accounting pronouncements and SEC guidance related to revenue recognition and assess their potential impact on the company's financial statements.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • ERP Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with major ERP systems, particularly NetSuite (including ARM module) or SAP.
  • Revenue Automation Software: Experience with dedicated revenue management tools such as Zuora, RevPro, or similar platforms.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
