Primary Functions

Actively assist skilled roofers with the full lifecycle of roofing projects, including the installation, repair, and replacement of various systems like asphalt shingles, metal panels, clay tiles, and flat roofing membranes (TPO, EPDM).
Perform rigorous preparation of roof surfaces by methodically stripping and disposing of old roofing materials, underlayment, and flashing in a safe and organized manner.
Ensure the roof deck is pristine and ready for new installation by sweeping away all debris, pulling old nails, and inspecting the substrate for any damage that needs attention.
Safely load, unload, and hoist roofing materials, tools, and heavy equipment from ground level to rooftops, distributing them strategically across the worksite as directed by the crew lead.
Methodically set up, secure, and dismantle access equipment such as ladders, scaffolding, and safety harnesses in strict compliance with all occupational health and safety regulations.
Operate a range of basic hand and power tools, including nail guns, pry bars, utility knives, circular saws, and drills, under the close supervision of an experienced roofer.
Precisely apply roofing adhesives, sealants, and caulking to seams, flashings, and roof penetrations to ensure a complete, watertight, and durable seal against weather intrusion.
Assist in laying down foundational layers, including ice and water shields, synthetic underlayment, insulation boards, and vapour barriers, ensuring proper overlap and adhesion.
Accurately measure and cut various roofing materials to fit perfectly around complex structures like chimneys, skylights, vents, and valleys for a professional and weatherproof finish.
Maintain a constant state of worksite cleanliness by continually collecting and properly disposing of off-cuts, packaging, and other debris to prevent trip hazards and maintain a professional site.
Actively participate in daily job site safety meetings and "toolbox talks," remaining vigilant for potential hazards and immediately reporting any safety concerns to the foreman.
Handle and store delicate roofing materials with care to prevent damage from sun, moisture, or impact, ensuring product integrity from delivery to installation.
Work as a cohesive and communicative member of the team, anticipating the needs of the installers and following the directions of the crew leader with precision and a positive attitude.
Endure physically demanding work for extended periods, which includes consistently lifting and carrying heavy materials (up to 80 lbs), as well as frequent bending, climbing, and kneeling in diverse weather conditions.
Learn to identify various roofing components, materials, and potential issues through hands-on experience and dedicated mentorship from senior crew members.
Provide crucial ground support, which involves organizing the staging area, managing waste bins, and being the go-to person for fetching tools or supplies for the crew on the roof.
