Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001) in alignment with organizational goals.
- Conduct regular and thorough site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to proactively identify potential hazards, unsafe work practices, and non-compliant conditions.
- Lead and document in-depth investigations into all workplace accidents, incidents, near-misses, and occupational illnesses to determine root causes and formulate effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Design, schedule, and deliver engaging and impactful safety training programs for all employees, new hires, and contractors on topics such as hazard communication, emergency response, LOTO, and PPE usage.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
- Maintain meticulous and audit-ready records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, safety committee meetings, and regulatory submissions.
- Perform and document Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for new and existing processes to systematically identify and mitigate task-specific risks.
- Champion and foster a positive, proactive safety culture through consistent communication, employee engagement initiatives, and visible leadership on the floor.
- Develop, manage, and test the facility's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and evacuation procedures, including organizing and leading drills and training first aid/emergency response teams.
- Oversee the personal protective equipment (PPE) program, including needs assessment, selection, employee training, fit-testing, and compliance monitoring.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA) during inspections, inquiries, and reporting processes, ensuring professional and timely communication.
- Chair and facilitate productive Safety Committee meetings, guiding discussions on safety performance, employee concerns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key safety performance indicators (KPIs), such as incident rates (TRIR, DART), to management, identifying trends and recommending strategic improvements.
- Provide expert technical advice, counsel, and support to senior management, supervisors, and employees on all matters related to occupational health and safety.
- Review contractor safety plans and pre-qualification documents to ensure external partners meet or exceed company safety standards before commencing work.
- Manage the facility's hazardous materials and chemical management program (HazCom), including maintaining the SDS library and ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposal.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring for potential exposures, such as noise dosimetry, air quality sampling, and ergonomic assessments, and implement necessary controls.
- Stay abreast of amendments to safety regulations, emerging industry trends, and best practices to ensure the organization's safety program remains current and effective.
- Manage the administrative aspects of workers' compensation claims in collaboration with Human Resources, focusing on effective case management and facilitating return-to-work programs.
- Conduct ergonomic evaluations for both office and industrial workstations to identify risks for musculoskeletal disorders and recommend practical solutions.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
- Participate in management review meetings to present safety performance data, project updates, and strategic plans.
- Support the procurement department by evaluating the safety standards and records of potential vendors and suppliers.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of OSHA (General Industry and/or Construction), EPA, and other relevant local/state safety regulations.
- Incident Investigation: Proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone) and formal investigation reporting.
