Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively patrol assigned areas, both interior and exterior, on foot or by vehicle, to prevent, detect, and deter signs of intrusion, property damage, and other security risks.
  • Diligently monitor and operate advanced CCTV surveillance systems, access control technologies, and alarm panels to observe and identify suspicious activities or policy violations in real-time.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and first responder for all security alarms, medical emergencies, fire alarms, and other critical incidents, taking immediate and appropriate action in accordance with established protocols.
  • Manage and control access to facilities by verifying credentials, issuing visitor badges, and maintaining accurate logs of all individuals entering and exiting the premises.
  • Author detailed, accurate, and grammatically correct incident reports, daily activity logs (DARs), and witness statements using proprietary reporting software, ensuring all events are documented thoroughly for legal and administrative purposes.
  • Enforce all company security policies and safety procedures in a firm, fair, and professional manner, providing guidance and corrective direction to employees and visitors when necessary.
  • Conduct initial investigations into incidents of theft, vandalism, accidents, and other security-related events by gathering evidence, interviewing involved parties, and securing incident scenes.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting employees and visitors with directions, information, and other requests, fostering a welcoming yet secure atmosphere.
  • Perform routine safety inspections and hazard assessments, identifying potential risks such as blocked fire exits, faulty equipment, or unsafe conditions and reporting them for remediation.
  • Respond to and de-escalate verbal conflicts or potentially volatile situations with composure and professionalism, using proven communication and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Coordinate effectively with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services (EMS) during emergency situations, providing them with critical information and support.
  • Operate and maintain security screening equipment, such as x-ray machines and magnetometers, to prevent prohibited items from entering the facility.
  • Provide security escorts for employees and visitors to their vehicles or other locations on the property, particularly during off-hours, to ensure their personal safety.
  • Manage the lost and found program, properly logging, storing, and attempting to return misplaced items to their rightful owners.
  • Conduct regular audits of security equipment, including cameras, alarms, and door locks, to ensure they are functioning correctly and report any malfunctions for repair.
  • Participate in and assist with the execution of emergency evacuation drills, providing clear instructions and ensuring an orderly process.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the development and refinement of site-specific security procedures, post orders, and emergency response plans to adapt to changing environments.
  • Provide security awareness briefings and basic safety training to new hires and existing employees as part of an ongoing education program.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • CCTV & Surveillance Systems Operation: Proficiency in operating multi-camera digital surveillance systems, including playback, evidence capture, and monitoring.
  • Access Control Systems Management: Experience with enterprise-level access control software for badge creation, permission setting, and activity monitoring.
  • Incident Reporting Software: Competency in using digital platforms (e.g., TrackTik, Silvertrac) to write and submit detailed, professional reports.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification: Current certification to provide immediate medical assistance in an emergency.
  • Physical Security Principles: Solid understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), physical barriers, and security layering.
  • Emergency Response Protocols: Knowledge of fire, medical, and security emergency procedures and the Incident Command System (ICS).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Possession of a valid state-issued Security Guard License/Card where required by law.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in a corporate security, law enforcement, military, or high-end customer service role.

Preferred: Experience in an environment similar to the hiring organization (e.g., corporate campus, data center, healthcare, manufacturing). Prior experience as a first responder (EMT, firefighter) is highly valued.
