Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute store opening and closing procedures with precision, ensuring the store is customer-ready and all security protocols, including alarm systems and cash handling, are meticulously followed.
  • Act as the Manager on Duty in the absence of salaried management, making informed decisions to maintain smooth store operations and address any immediate associate or customer concerns.
  • Champion a customer-centric sales approach by actively engaging with clients, uncovering their needs through thoughtful questioning, and providing expert product knowledge to drive sales and enhance their shopping experience.
  • Consistently meet and exceed personal sales targets, conversion rates, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while motivating the team to achieve store-wide goals.
  • Perform all point-of-sale (POS) transactions with accuracy and efficiency, including sales, returns, exchanges, and gift card processing, while adhering to all cash handling and reconciliation procedures.
  • Handle customer escalations and complex issues with professionalism and empathy, seeking to find a satisfactory resolution that upholds company policy and preserves customer loyalty.
  • Build and nurture a personal client base through effective clienteling, including proactive outreach, follow-up communication, and managing a client book to encourage repeat business.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all product lines, including features, benefits, and new arrivals, to serve as a product expert for both customers and team members.
  • Uphold all loss prevention standards and asset protection policies, demonstrating a high level of integrity and awareness to minimize shrink.
  • Process and manage special orders, phone sales, and online order fulfillments, ensuring a seamless and consistent customer experience across all channels.
  • Authorize and oversee employee transactions and approve customer returns or exchanges according to established company guidelines.
  • Prepare and manage bank deposits, reconcile the cash wrap, and ensure the safekeeping of all company funds and assets.
  • Support the management team in driving promotional events and marketing initiatives on the sales floor to maximize their impact.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for other Sales Associates, providing constructive feedback, on-the-spot coaching, and guidance on sales techniques and operational procedures.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new Sales Associates, sharing knowledge of store processes, product information, and service standards.
  • Support inventory management processes, including receiving and processing new shipments, conducting cycle counts, and identifying inventory discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the management team to implement and maintain visual merchandising standards, ensuring product displays are attractive, fully stocked, and aligned with brand directives.
  • Communicate key business updates, daily goals, and promotional information to the team during pre-shift huddles or throughout the day.
  • Proactively manage the sales floor to ensure adequate coverage, a clean and organized environment, and a consistently positive brand presentation.
  • Monitor stock levels on the sales floor and communicate replenishment needs to the stock team or management to prevent out-of-stock situations.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss performance, share best practices, and contribute to the overall success and morale of the store.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • POS System Proficiency: Expertise in operating retail Point-of-Sale systems for various transaction types, including returns and exchanges.
  • Cash Management & Reconciliation: Skilled in handling cash, credit, and other forms of payment, as well as balancing cash drawers and preparing bank deposits.
  • Key Handling & Security Procedures: Understanding of and adherence to protocols for opening/closing the store, managing keys, and operating alarm systems.
  • Inventory Control: Familiarity with inventory management software and processes like cycle counts, receiving, and transfers.
  • Clienteling Techniques: Ability to use CRM tools or a client book to manage customer relationships and drive repeat business.
  • Visual Merchandising: Basic knowledge of product placement, display standards, and how to maintain a visually appealing sales floor.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of progressive experience in a customer-facing retail environment.
