Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet and welcome clients with a warm and professional demeanor, escorting them to the appropriate station and ensuring their immediate comfort.
  • Prepare clients for their services by expertly draping them and providing a relaxing and thorough shampoo, condition, and scalp massage experience.
  • Assist stylists directly during services, which includes mixing hair color formulas, preparing foils, and handing them necessary tools and products.
  • Apply hair treatments, toners, and glosses under the direct supervision and guidance of a senior stylist.
  • Perform professional blow-dries and basic styling to prepare clients for the final touches from their stylist.
  • Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and presentation by consistently sweeping hair, sanitizing stylist stations between appointments, and cleaning mirrors and surfaces.
  • Manage the salon's laundry, ensuring a constant supply of fresh, clean towels, robes, and capes for client use.
  • Uphold and exceed all state board sanitation and sterilization standards by properly cleaning tools, equipment, and shared spaces.
  • Offer and serve beverages and other amenities to clients, enhancing their comfort and creating a luxurious salon experience.
  • Act as a liaison between the client and the stylist, ensuring clear communication and a seamless service flow.
  • Proactively anticipate the needs of the stylists and the front desk to keep the daily schedule running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Engage with clients in a friendly and professional manner, building rapport and contributing to a positive and loyal client base.
  • Educate clients on salon-exclusive products and after-care routines, assisting with retail sales to help clients maintain their look at home.

Secondary Functions

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels for both professional back-bar products and retail items, assisting with restocking shelves and placing orders.
  • Handle front desk duties as needed, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments using salon software, and processing client payments.
  • Assist with tracking key salon metrics, such as product sales, client retention, and service frequency, to support management decisions.
  • Provide feedback on salon processes and client experiences to contribute to the continuous improvement of services and operations.
  • Collaborate with stylists, estheticians, and front desk staff to ensure a seamless client journey from booking to checkout.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and educational workshops to enhance skills and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Assist in creating content for the salon's social media channels by taking photos and videos of finished styles (with client permission).
  • Prepare the salon for opening and execute closing procedures, including end-of-day cleaning, cashing out, and setting up for the next business day.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Shampooing and Conditioning: Proficient in various shampooing, conditioning, and scalp massage techniques suited to different hair types and client needs.
  • Sanitation and Disinfection: Thorough knowledge of state board sanitation regulations for tools, stations, and common areas.
  • Basic Hair Styling: Competency in performing professional-level blow-dries, using round brushes and other tools to achieve volume and smoothness.
  • Product Knowledge: Familiarity with a wide range of professional hair care and styling products and their applications.
  • Appointment Scheduling Software: Experience with or ability to quickly learn salon management software such as Booker, Vagaro, or Mindbody.
  • Color and Chemical Preparation: Ability to accurately measure and mix hair color, developer, and other chemical treatments as directed by a stylist.
