Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively monitor the health, performance, and availability of the entire SAP landscape, including S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, ECC, and PI/PO systems, to ensure optimal uptime and business continuity.
  • Execute the complete lifecycle management of SAP systems, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and system refreshes/copies for project and support activities.
  • Manage the SAP Transport Management System (TMS) end-to-end, ensuring the smooth, audited, and timely migration of configurations and code across all system environments (DEV, QAS, PRD).
  • Perform advanced performance tuning and troubleshooting of SAP systems, analyzing system logs, workload data, and performance metrics to resolve bottlenecks and optimize resource utilization.
  • Administer and maintain the underlying databases (SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server) supporting the SAP applications, including backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Implement and manage robust SAP security protocols, including user administration, role creation and maintenance (PFCG), and regular security audits to ensure compliance with corporate policies and SOX regulations.
  • Configure and utilize SAP Solution Manager (SOLMAN) for system monitoring, technical administration, change management (ChaRM), and root cause analysis.
  • Lead and coordinate the application of SAP support packages, enhancement packs (EHPs), and kernel upgrades, conducting rigorous impact analysis and testing to minimize business disruption.
  • Provide expert-level technical support for system-related incidents and problems, collaborating with SAP support, functional analysts, and developers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Manage and maintain the SAP NetWeaver Java Stack, including administration of the Enterprise Portal, PI/PO, and other Java-based systems.
  • Plan and execute complex SAP landscape projects, such as migrations to S/4HANA or transitions to cloud hosting environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce system administration policies, procedures, and technical documentation to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Configure and manage SAP printing and spool administration, troubleshooting issues with output devices and print queues across the enterprise.
  • Set up and maintain high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for critical SAP systems, performing regular failover tests to validate readiness.
  • Manage integrations between SAP and non-SAP systems, troubleshooting RFC connections, IDocs, and web services to ensure seamless data flow.
  • Perform client administration tasks, including client creation, client copies (local, remote), and client exports/imports as required for project and testing needs.
  • Evaluate and implement new SAP technologies and tools to enhance system capabilities, improve efficiency, and support business innovation.
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages (e.g., shell scripting, Python) to improve operational efficiency and reduce the potential for human error.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams (network, storage, server) to ensure the underlying hardware and network resources meet SAP's performance and availability requirements.
  • Conduct regular system capacity planning and analysis, providing recommendations for hardware and resource scaling to accommodate future business growth.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • SAP Basis Administration: Deep expertise in the core principles of SAP system administration across ABAP and Java stacks.
  • S/4HANA & HANA DB: Hands-on experience with the administration, installation, and migration of SAP S/4HANA environments and HANA database management.
  • Operating Systems: Proficiency in managing SAP on various OS platforms, primarily SUSE Linux (SLES for SAP), Red Hat Linux, and Windows Server.
  • Database Administration: Strong knowledge of database administration for platforms like Oracle, MS SQL Server, and Sybase ASE in an SAP context.
  • SAP Solution Manager (SOLMAN): Experience with configuration and utilization of SOLMAN 7.2 for monitoring, ChaRM, and technical operations.
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with deploying and managing SAP workloads on public cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Performance Tuning: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues at the application, database, and OS levels.
  • Security & Authorization: In-depth understanding of SAP security concepts, roles, and user authorization (PFCG).
  • Scripting & Automation: Competency in shell scripting (Bash, ksh) or other languages (Python, PowerShell) to automate administrative tasks.
