Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the complete installation, commissioning, and testing of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite systems at customer locations, ensuring optimal signal lock and performance.
- Perform comprehensive site surveys to determine the optimal placement of satellite antennas and outdoor equipment, considering line-of-sight, potential obstructions, and cable routing pathways.
- Install, terminate, and test various types of cabling, including coaxial, Ethernet, and fiber optic, ensuring all connections meet or exceed industry standards.
- Assemble, install, and accurately point satellite antennas (ranging from 1.2m to 3.8m+) and mount associated hardware, including Block Upconverters (BUCs) and Low-Noise Block Downconverters (LNBs).
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain satellite modems, routers, switches, and other associated networking hardware to establish and optimize IP connectivity.
- Utilize specialized test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, signal level meters, and BERT testers, to diagnose and resolve RF interference and other signal quality issues.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on satellite earth station equipment to ensure long-term system reliability and prevent service degradation.
- Respond to service calls and trouble tickets, performing systematic troubleshooting to identify root causes of system failures and implementing effective repairs.
- Perform software and firmware upgrades on modems, antenna control units, and other system components as directed by engineering or the NOC.
- Isolate and resolve complex issues related to antenna systems, RF-over-fiber equipment, and IP network integration.
- Safely work at heights, including on rooftops, towers, and ladders, while adhering to all company and OSHA safety protocols.
- Provide clear and professional technical support and training to end-users, explaining system functionality and basic troubleshooting steps.
- Interface directly with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to activate new services, troubleshoot network-level problems, and verify system performance.
- Decommission and remove outdated or failed satellite communication systems, ensuring the site is returned to its original condition.
- Manage and maintain the inventory of tools, test equipment, and spare parts assigned to your service vehicle.
Secondary Functions
- Complete detailed and accurate documentation for all work performed, including installation reports, site survey forms, troubleshooting logs, and maintenance records.
- Provide on-call emergency support, sometimes outside of normal business hours, to respond to critical service outages in a timely manner.
- Assist systems engineers with the testing and validation of new satellite products, services, and installation procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance and a high level of customer service when interacting with clients on-site, acting as a key representative of the company.
