Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately weigh and portion various types of cheese products using digital scales to meet precise product specifications and minimize waste.
  • Operate a range of packaging machinery, such as vacuum sealers, heat tunnels, and automated labeling equipment, performing basic setup and adjustments.
  • Carefully place cheese into designated packaging (bags, trays, containers), ensuring proper presentation and product integrity are maintained throughout the process.
  • Apply correct labels, date codes, and lot information to each package with a high degree of accuracy to ensure regulatory compliance and product traceability.
  • Conduct continuous visual inspections of cheese and packaging materials to identify and remove any products that do not meet quality standards due to defects or damage.
  • Adhere strictly to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety protocols, and allergen control procedures to prevent contamination.
  • Assemble cardboard boxes, trays, and other secondary packaging materials in preparation for packing finished products.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a production line team, coordinating tasks with colleagues to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow and meet daily targets.
  • Safely lift, stack, and palletize finished cases of product, ensuring stability and proper arrangement for transfer to the refrigerated warehouse.
  • Consistently wear and properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves, hairnets, and coats, in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Meticulously complete production records and quality check-sheets, documenting quantities, batch numbers, and any operational downtime.
  • Assist with the setup, changeover, and teardown of packaging lines between different product runs, ensuring equipment is ready for the next task.
  • Monitor packaging equipment during operation and promptly report any mechanical issues, jams, or unusual noises to the line lead or maintenance department.
  • Rotate through various stations on the packaging line as directed by a supervisor to support operational needs and develop a broad skill set.
  • Handle all cheese products with the utmost care to prevent bruising, cracking, or damage, preserving the premium quality expected by customers.
  • Manage the flow of packaging supplies to the line, anticipating needs and restocking materials to prevent interruptions in production.
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitization of tools, work surfaces, and equipment during and at the end of each shift.
  • Strive to consistently meet or exceed established goals for production speed, efficiency, and quality without compromising safety.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and teammates regarding production status, quality concerns, or potential safety hazards.
  • Adapt to variable production schedules and evolving product priorities to effectively meet fluctuating seasonal customer demand.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Equipment Operation: Ability to learn and operate packaging machinery, including vacuum sealers, label applicators, and digital scales.
  • Basic Math: Proficiency in basic arithmetic for counting, weighing, and verifying product quantities.
  • GMP & Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of and commitment to following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards.
  • Physical Stamina: The ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours) and work in a refrigerated environment (typically 35-45°F).
  • Lifting Capability: The physical ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Manual Dexterity: Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions with precision.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
