Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise the day-to-day security operations of a team of security officers, providing clear direction, ongoing training, and constructive performance feedback to ensure team effectiveness.
  • Develop, manage, and distribute weekly and daily shift schedules to ensure complete and adequate security coverage at all times, including the proactive management of call-offs, vacation requests, and overtime.
  • Conduct regular and unscheduled patrols and comprehensive inspections of interior and exterior premises to identify and mitigate security risks, safety hazards, and potential policy breaches.
  • Act as the on-scene commander and primary responder for all security alarms, medical emergencies, and critical incidents, coordinating the response effort until relieved by senior management or external emergency services.
  • Prepare, review, and submit detailed, clear, and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs (DARs), and other required security documentation in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct initial investigations into security incidents, such as theft, vandalism, or unauthorized access, by securing scenes, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and compiling findings for management review.
  • Mentor, coach, and train new and existing security personnel on site-specific procedures (post orders), company policies, emergency response protocols, and exceptional customer service standards.
  • Consistently enforce all client and company security policies and procedures, including physical access control, visitor management, and property regulations, ensuring compliance from all staff and visitors.
  • Monitor and operate complex security systems, including enterprise-level CCTV, electronic access control, and alarm systems, and dispatch officers appropriately to investigate suspicious activities.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for security officers, providing documented coaching and implementing corrective action or disciplinary plans as needed to address performance gaps.
  • Serve as the main, accessible point of contact for clients, employees, and visitors regarding day-to-day security matters, addressing all questions and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Manage the issuance, inventory, and maintenance of all security equipment, such as radios, body cameras, keys, and access cards, ensuring all items are accounted for and in proper working order.
  • Perform routine security risk assessments and safety audits of the facility, recommending practical improvements to physical security measures, technology, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate effectively with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency services during incidents and for joint planning and training purposes.
  • Ensure all security staff maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, strictly adhering to uniform, grooming, and conduct standards.
  • Lead daily pre-shift briefings ("guard mount") to communicate critical pass-down information, review recent incidents, and assign specific duties and focus areas for the upcoming shift.
  • Develop, review, and update site-specific post orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the security team, ensuring they remain relevant, clear, and are consistently followed.
  • Skillfully manage and de-escalate conflicts, disputes, or aggressive confrontations involving employees, visitors, or trespassers using approved techniques and a calm, authoritative presence.
  • Oversee the proper functioning of all security-related technology and physical infrastructure, promptly reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies for timely repair and resolution.
  • Lead and document safety drills and emergency preparedness exercises, such as fire drills and evacuation tests, with the security team and facility occupants to ensure readiness.
  • Provide dedicated security oversight and planning support for special events, executive visits, or high-risk operations that occur on-site.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the site layout, including critical infrastructure, high-value assets, and key personnel locations, to enable a more effective and rapid incident response.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the Security Manager in the development of the departmental budget and help manage operational expenses, such as overtime, training, and equipment costs.
  • Actively participate in site safety committee meetings, providing valuable input and reports from a security and risk management perspective.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all security equipment and departmental supplies, processing orders for new or replacement items as needed.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
