Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the end-to-end installation of integrated security solutions, including access control, IP video surveillance (CCTV), and intrusion alarm systems, following blueprints, schematics, and design specifications.
  • Mount and physically install a variety of security hardware, such as card readers, door contacts, motion detectors, electric strikes, maglocks, and both analog and IP cameras.
  • Perform precise routing, termination, and testing of low-voltage cabling (CAT5/6, Coaxial, Fiber Optic) through walls, conduits, and ceilings, ensuring adherence to building codes and industry best practices.
  • Configure and program security system components, including access control panels, network video recorders (NVRs), digital video recorders (DVRs), and alarm panels for full functionality.
  • Conduct thorough system testing and commissioning to verify that all installed components are communicating and functioning correctly according to the scope of work.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex hardware, software, and network connectivity issues for existing security systems to minimize downtime and restore functionality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine service calls to ensure the long-term reliability and optimal performance of client security systems.
  • Provide comprehensive on-site training to end-users and clients, demonstrating system features, functionalities, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
  • Read and interpret technical documents, including wiring diagrams, floor plans, and manufacturer installation manuals, to guide installation and service activities.
  • Manage and program user access levels, schedules, and permissions within access control software platforms like Genetec, Lenel, S2, or C-Cure.
  • Address and resolve system alarms and alerts, investigating the root cause and implementing corrective actions in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform firmware and software updates on system devices and head-end equipment to maintain security, stability, and access to new features.
  • Install, aim, and focus a wide range of camera types (dome, bullet, PTZ, multi-imager) to achieve optimal fields of view and image quality.
  • Work safely and effectively on ladders, lifts, and in various construction environments, consistently adhering to all site-specific and company safety protocols.
  • Terminate and test network connections, and perform basic IP address configuration and network troubleshooting related to security devices on a client's network.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain meticulous and accurate documentation of all service and installation activities, including as-built drawings, work orders, and service tickets.
  • Collaborate with project managers and sales engineers to assist with site surveys and pre-installation planning, providing technical insights and recommendations.
  • Manage on-vehicle inventory of parts and equipment, ensuring necessary components are available for scheduled jobs and service calls.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours and emergency support for critical system failures.
  • Uphold a professional and positive demeanor when interacting with clients, contractors, and team members, serving as a key representative of the organization.
  • Stay current with emerging security technologies, products, and installation techniques through continuous training and self-study.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Access Control Systems: In-depth knowledge of installing and servicing major access control platforms such as Genetec, LenelS2, AMAG, C-Cure 9000, or similar enterprise-level systems.
  • IP Video/CCTV: Strong proficiency in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IP-based and analog video surveillance systems, including NVRs, VMS software (e.g., Milestone, ExacqVision), and a wide range of camera technologies.
  • Low-Voltage Cabling: Expertise in pulling, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting various low-voltage cables, including CAT5/6, coaxial, and multi-conductor, following EIA/TIA standards.
  • Network Fundamentals: Solid understanding of basic networking principles, including TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, and the ability to configure IP addresses on devices and perform basic network diagnostics.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: The ability to read, understand, and work from technical drawings, floor plans, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate system installation.
  • Use of Hand and Power Tools: Competency in the safe and effective use of a wide range of tools, including drills, multimeters, cable testers, and termination tools.
  • Intrusion Detection Systems: Experience with the installation and programming of commercial alarm panels and associated sensors (e.g., Bosch, DMP, Honeywell).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's Degree or certification from a technical/vocational school.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Electronics Technology
  • Information Technology or Computer Networking

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-7 years of hands-on experience installing and servicing commercial electronic security systems.

Preferred: Direct experience working with large-scale, integrated security systems in enterprise, commercial, or industrial environments. Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Genetec, Lenel, Milestone) are highly desirable.
