Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, pitch, and develop original and compelling segment ideas daily, ensuring they align with the show's editorial direction and brand identity.
  • Conduct thorough research and fact-checking on a wide range of topics to ensure accuracy, depth, and credibility for all segment content.
  • Identify, vet, pre-interview, and book a diverse roster of high-profile guests, experts, and characters, managing all communications and logistical arrangements.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging scripts, interview questions, and host copy that effectively tells a story and guides the on-air talent.
  • Oversee the entire production process of a segment, from pre-production planning and field shoots to post-production editing and final delivery.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers and video editors to source and create necessary visual elements, including b-roll, photos, SOTs, and full-screen graphics.
  • Direct talent and crew during studio recordings or field shoots to ensure the creative vision for the segment is successfully executed.
  • Manage segment rundowns and timing to ensure the show runs smoothly and stays on schedule in a live or live-to-tape environment.
  • Pitch and produce multi-platform content, adapting broadcast segments for digital and social media channels to maximize reach and audience engagement.
  • Maintain a strong network of contacts, including public relations professionals, subject matter experts, and potential guests.
  • Review and screen incoming pitches and materials, exercising strong editorial judgment to identify stories with high potential.
  • Work closely with senior and executive producers to shape the daily show, contributing to editorial meetings and long-term planning.
  • Manage and oversee the work of Production Assistants and Associate Producers assigned to your segments, providing mentorship and clear direction.
  • Ensure all content adheres to legal and ethical standards, including copyright laws and journalistic best practices.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage segment-specific budgets, track expenses, and process invoices to ensure production stays within financial parameters.
  • Secure rights and clearances for all third-party materials, including archival footage, photos, and music used within your segments.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments, such as promotions, marketing, and digital teams, to ensure cohesive cross-platform strategy.
  • Maintain and update extensive contact databases, research files, and production archives for future use.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in media, pop culture, and current events to generate timely and relevant segment ideas.
  • Assist in control room operations during live broadcasts, providing real-time information and support to the director and producing team.
  • Contribute to post-show debriefs, offering constructive feedback to improve future broadcasts and production workflows.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Scriptwriting & Research: Expertise in crafting compelling narratives, interview questions, and host copy using production software like iNews or ENPS.
  • Video Editing: Proficiency with non-linear editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer to cut SOTs, teases, and rough cuts.
  • Field & Studio Production: Strong understanding of camera operation, lighting, audio, and control room workflows.
  • Guest Booking & Management: Proven ability to identify, secure, and manage high-profile guests and experts.
  • Digital Content Management: Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and creating content for various social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X).
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables simultaneously using tools like Monday.com or Asana.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional production experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-7 years of professional experience in television, digital video, or news production.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working as a Producer or Associate Producer in a live broadcast news, talk show, or equivalent fast-paced media environment is highly preferred. A strong reel or portfolio of produced segments is required.
