Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct, coordinate, and manage all on-site activities of subcontractors, skilled laborers, and vendors to ensure project specifications and timelines are rigorously met.
  • Champion and enforce a world-class safety culture on-site, conducting daily safety briefings (toolbox talks), regular site inspections, and ensuring all personnel strictly adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols.
  • Provide hands-on supervision and leadership to the entire site crew, motivating teams to maintain high standards of productivity and craftsmanship.
  • Interpret complex construction blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications, translating them into actionable plans for the on-site team and ensuring work is executed with precision.
  • Proactively identify and resolve on-site issues, conflicts, and discrepancies in a timely manner to prevent delays and cost overruns.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate daily project documentation, including site logs, progress reports, incident reports, and photographic records of site conditions and work progress.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality control inspections throughout the project lifecycle to ensure all work meets or exceeds building codes, design specifications, and quality benchmarks.
  • Manage the on-site inventory of materials, tools, and equipment, coordinating deliveries and ensuring resources are available and allocated efficiently to avoid work stoppages.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, engineers, and architects to provide updates on progress, discuss challenges, and participate in strategic problem-solving.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive the short-term construction schedule, coordinating trade sequencing and ensuring milestones are achieved in alignment with the master project schedule.
  • Oversee the commissioning and final handover of the project, managing punch lists and ensuring all closeout documentation is completed accurately.
  • Liaise with client representatives, inspectors, and local authorities during site visits, professionally representing the company and ensuring a positive relationship.
  • Review and approve subcontractor and vendor time-sheets and work tickets, verifying accuracy against work completed.
  • Ensure the job site is kept clean, organized, and secure at all times to promote safety and operational efficiency.
  • Facilitate on-site meetings with trade partners to coordinate upcoming work and resolve any inter-trade conflicts or logistical issues.
  • Monitor project progress against the established budget, reporting any potential deviations or cost impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Manage the proper use and maintenance of all company equipment and assets located on the job site.
  • Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior staff, foremen, and apprentices to foster skill development and team growth.
  • Implement effective traffic control and site logistics plans, especially in congested or live environments, to ensure public and site safety.
  • Respond to and manage site emergencies effectively, following established emergency response procedures to mitigate risks to personnel and property.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the Project Manager with budget tracking, cost-to-complete analysis, and change order documentation from a field perspective.
  • Contribute field-level expertise during pre-construction meetings, providing valuable input on constructability, scheduling, and site logistics.
  • Support the procurement team by providing timely and accurate material take-offs and equipment requirements from the field.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of company processes, providing feedback on safety procedures, construction methods, and operational workflows.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Blueprint & Technical Drawing Interpretation: Advanced ability to read, understand, and execute work based on architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
  • Construction Management Software: Proficiency in using tools like Procore, PlanGrid, or similar platforms for daily reporting, RFI's, and document management.
  • Project Scheduling Software: Working knowledge of MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling tools to understand and drive the project timeline.
  • OSHA Regulations: Deep understanding of OSHA 30 standards and other relevant federal and state construction safety regulations.
  • Building Codes & Standards: Strong knowledge of local, state, and national building codes and construction best practices.
  • Quality Control & Assurance: Expertise in implementing and documenting quality control processes and inspection procedures.
  • Surveying & Site Layout: Competency in using basic surveying equipment (laser levels, builder's levels) for layout and verification.
  • Construction Methodologies: In-depth knowledge of various construction methods, materials, and trade sequencing.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Trade school certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship program.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 5-10 years of progressive experience in the construction industry.
