Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform high-quality alterations on men's and women's apparel, including but not limited to suits, dresses, trousers, shirts, and outerwear.
- Accurately measure clients and conduct detailed fittings to identify and mark all necessary adjustments for a perfect fit.
- Operate and maintain a variety of industrial and domestic sewing machines, such as single-needle, overlock (serger), and blind-stitch machines.
- Execute a wide range of sewing tasks including hemming, sleeve adjustments, taking in or letting out seams, replacing zippers, and adjusting waistbands.
- Expertly handle delicate, luxury, and complex fabrics like silk, chiffon, lace, leather, and beaded materials with appropriate techniques.
- Perform intricate hand-sewing, finishing, and pressing techniques to ensure a clean, professional, and invisible finish on all altered garments.
- Advise clients on the feasibility, cost, and time requirements of requested alterations, managing expectations and providing styling suggestions.
- Deconstruct and reconstruct garment sections as needed to achieve complex structural changes while maintaining the original design integrity.
- Manage and prioritize a personal workflow of alteration tickets to meet deadlines and ensure timely completion of customer orders.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks on all finished garments to ensure they meet the company's high standards of craftsmanship.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including personal station, fitting rooms, and shared equipment areas.
- Communicate effectively with Senior Tailors, Sales Associates, and Management regarding specific client needs, challenges, or delays.
- Carefully record customer measurements, alteration details, and charges in the point-of-sale or order management system.
- Assist in fittings for special occasion wear, including bridal gowns, evening wear, and formal suits, requiring a high level of precision.
- Provide exceptional, patient, and friendly customer service throughout the fitting and pick-up process to build client loyalty.
- Mend and repair damaged garments, including patching holes, re-sewing seams, and replacing buttons or other hardware.
- Press, steam, and prepare all finished garments for client pickup, ensuring a pristine final presentation.
- Assist in the cost estimation for alteration services, providing clear and accurate quotes to clients before beginning work.
- Collaborate with the sales floor team to provide a seamless customer journey from initial purchase through to the final fitting.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines, sergers, and blind hemmers.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern principles, and fabric characteristics.
- Advanced hand-sewing, stitching, and finishing skills (e.g., felling, pick stitching).
- Expertise in performing a wide range of alterations, from basic hems to re-cutting garments.
- Ability to take precise body measurements and translate them into garment adjustments.
- Experience working with a diverse range of fabrics, from denim and wool to silk and lace.
