Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute the safe and efficient loading and unloading of various bulk materials (liquid and dry) into/from tanker trucks and railcars in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Securely connect and disconnect loading arms, transfer hoses, and grounding wires, ensuring proper seals and fittings for each specific product.
Operate automated and manual control systems, including pumps, valves, meters, and scales, to precisely manage the flow and quantity of materials.
Meticulously monitor transfer operations, observing gauges, flowmeters, and tank levels to prevent spills, overfills, and contamination.
Conduct thorough pre- and post-transfer inspections of vehicles, railcars, and loading equipment to identify and report any potential safety hazards or defects.
Verify shipping documents, such as the Bill of Lading (BOL), against vehicle identification and product orders to ensure accuracy before commencing transfer.
Draw product samples for quality control analysis, properly labeling and delivering them to the lab to confirm product specifications are met.
Maintain impeccable and accurate records of all transfer activities, including completing loading logs, inspection forms, and inventory adjustments in our digital systems.
Strictly adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards, as well as all internal company safety and environmental policies.
Consistently wear and properly maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, and chemical-resistant gear.
Respond promptly and effectively to any operational alarms or emergencies, such as spills or equipment failures, by following established emergency response protocols.
Ensure all outbound vehicles are properly sealed, placarded, and documented before dispatch from the facility.

Secondary Functions

Perform routine and preventative light maintenance on loading equipment, such as lubricating valves, inspecting hoses, and cleaning filters, to ensure operational readiness.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the loading rack and surrounding areas, ensuring a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Effectively communicate with truck drivers, rail personnel, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate activities and ensure safe, seamless operations.
Assist in managing the flow of vehicle traffic within the loading area to prevent congestion and maintain a safe, efficient workflow.
Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance site safety and operational performance.
Troubleshoot minor operational and equipment issues, applying problem-solving skills to resolve them or escalate to maintenance when necessary.
Support inventory control efforts by performing physical tank gauging, inventory counts, and reconciling data within the inventory management system.
Operate forklifts, yard mules, or other mobile equipment as required to support loading and general terminal activities (certification may be required).

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Bulk Material Handling: Proven ability to manage the loading and unloading of bulk liquids or dry goods, including experience with pumps, valves, and hoses.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of relevant safety and environmental regulations, particularly DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards for hazardous materials.
Mechanical Aptitude: The ability to understand and interact with mechanical equipment, perform minor maintenance, and troubleshoot operational issues.
Computer Proficiency: Basic computer skills for data entry, using inventory management software, and completing electronic documentation.
Equipment Operation: Experience or certification in operating industrial equipment such as forklifts, railcar movers, or terminal tractors is a significant plus.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Preferred Education:

Associate's Degree or a certificate from a technical/vocational school in Process Technology, Logistics, or a related discipline.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in an industrial setting such as manufacturing, transportation, chemical processing, or a bulk terminal.

Preferred: Direct experience as a Tank Loader, Terminal Operator, or Chemical Operator is highly advantageous. Experience handling hazardous materials is strongly preferred.
