Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform welding operations on storage tanks using processes such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW in accordance with project specifications.
- Fabricate, assemble, and weld tank shells, bottoms, roofs, nozzles, and structural components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to ensure accurate construction.
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, cutting torches, and related tools.
- Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, beveling, and fitting components prior to welding.
- Conduct welds in various positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Perform field and shop welding on new tank construction, repairs, and retrofits.
- Ensure all welds meet applicable codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, and API.
- Perform visual inspections and assist with non-destructive testing (NDT) such as radiographic or ultrasonic testing.
- Repair weld defects identified during inspection processes.
- Follow confined space entry procedures and work safely inside tanks when required.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, including PPE usage and hot work permits.
- Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to meet project timelines and quality goals.
- Document welding activities, inspections, and repairs as required by project or regulatory standards.
- Assist with tank hydrostatic testing and commissioning activities.
- Operate lifting, rigging, and material handling equipment safely.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment and tools.
- Support tank demolition, refurbishment, and modification projects when assigned.
- Adapt welding techniques based on material types, thicknesses, and environmental conditions.
- Travel to job sites and work extended hours, weekends, or shutdown periods as required.
