Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely operate a commercial tractor-trailer combination vehicle, often for extended periods, to transport bulk liquid, gas, or dry bulk materials to and from customer locations.
Execute meticulous pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections in strict accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, thoroughly checking tires, brakes, lights, hoses, valves, and all safety equipment.
Expertly manage the loading and unloading of cargo, which may include hazardous materials, by properly connecting hoses, operating pumps, and diligently monitoring flow rates to prevent spills, overfills, and ensure product integrity.
Maintain strict adherence to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as specific DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations governing hours of service (HOS).
Accurately and consistently utilize Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to record duty status, driving time, mileage, and locations, ensuring full compliance with HOS regulations at all times.
Secure all equipment, including hatches, valves, dome lids, and connections, before, during, and after transit to prevent leaks, contamination, or catastrophic failures.
Follow precise customer delivery instructions, including navigating complex industrial plant sites and adhering to specific on-site safety protocols and procedures.
Manage, verify, and complete all required shipping documentation, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, manifests, and product quality forms, ensuring 100% accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain constant and professional communication with dispatchers to report on status, provide ETAs, and immediately report any delays, incidents, or potential issues encountered on the route.
Execute established emergency response procedures in the event of a spill, leak, or accident, including deploying containment materials, securing the area, and notifying appropriate authorities and company personnel.
Continuously monitor vehicle performance during operation and promptly report any mechanical defects or necessary repairs to the maintenance department to ensure vehicle safety and operational readiness.
Provide exceptional customer service during all interactions at loading and unloading facilities, representing the company with a professional demeanor and a solutions-oriented mindset.
Conduct product quality checks as required by the specific cargo, which may include taking product samples, checking temperatures, and verifying product specifications before loading.
Navigate routes efficiently using GPS technology and traditional maps, proactively planning for fuel stops, rest periods, and potential road hazards, weather, or construction.
Ensure the tanker interior is properly cleaned, flushed, and prepared between loads to prevent cross-contamination, following stringent company and industry standards.

Secondary Functions

Actively participate in mandatory safety meetings, ongoing training sessions, and driver development programs to stay current with evolving best practices and regulations.
Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the assigned tractor and trailer, both interior and exterior, reflecting company standards.
Accurately complete and submit expense reports, fuel receipts, and other administrative paperwork in a timely fashion.
Act as a mentor or peer advisor for new or less experienced drivers, sharing knowledge of best practices for safety, compliance, and tanker operations.
Proactively evaluate and report on road conditions, traffic patterns, and customer site hazards to contribute to the company's overall operational safety and efficiency.
Stay informed about changes in transportation regulations, hazardous material handling protocols, and company policies to ensure continuous compliance.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in the state of residence.
Tanker (N) Endorsement is mandatory.
Hazardous Materials (H or X) Endorsement is mandatory.
Proficiency in operating various types of tractor-trailers, including those with manual and automatic transmissions.
Deep understanding and practical knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and EPA regulations.
Skilled in the operation of pumps, valves, hoses, and other bulk liquid transfer equipment.

Experience Requirements
