Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Actively patrol the store, sales floor, and backrooms to create a strong visual deterrent and identify potential security risks or theft-related activities.
- Utilize advanced CCTV systems and other surveillance technologies to covertly monitor high-risk areas and investigate suspicious behaviors.
- Detect, investigate, and successfully resolve external theft incidents, leading to apprehensions and recovery of assets in strict accordance with company policy.
- Conduct thorough, objective, and well-documented interviews with subjects and witnesses related to both internal and external theft investigations.
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate case files and incident reports for all security-related events, ensuring they are suitable for legal and corporate review.
- Respond promptly and professionally to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) activations, alarms, and other emergency situations, including medical incidents and safety hazards.
- Develop and maintain a strong, collaborative partnership with local law enforcement agencies, representing the company in a professional capacity.
- Testify in legal proceedings, including criminal and civil court, to provide factual, unbiased accounts of investigative findings.
- Manage and de-escalate confrontational situations with a calm and confident demeanor, prioritizing the safety of all guests and team members.
- Conduct routine audits of the store's physical security systems, including alarms, locks, and access control, to ensure they are fully functional.
- Investigate and help resolve instances of internal dishonesty, including cash handling irregularities, discount abuse, and merchandise theft.
- Ensure the physical security of high-value merchandise by implementing and maintaining protective measures and product protection strategies.
- Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable security resource for guests and team members, providing excellent service while maintaining security awareness.
- Execute and document apprehensions and recoveries, meticulously handling evidence and adhering to all chain-of-custody procedures.
Secondary Functions
- Support store leadership by analyzing theft data and shortage trends to identify root causes and develop actionable shrink-reduction plans.
- Train and mentor store team members on asset protection principles, safety protocols, and shortage awareness to foster a culture of security.
- Conduct regular safety walks and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring compliance with all company safety standards. - Assist in the execution of the store's emergency response plan, participating in drills and providing clear direction during actual events.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with store leadership and team members to effectively integrate asset protection goals into daily operations.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy by providing front-line insights into theft patterns and security vulnerabilities.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- CCTV & Digital Surveillance: Proficient in operating and utilizing modern CCTV systems, including camera manipulation, evidence retrieval, and covert surveillance techniques.
- Interview & Interrogation: Formal training or demonstrated skill in non-confrontational interview techniques (e.g., Wicklander-Zulawski) to gather information and obtain admissions.
- Incident Report Writing: Ability to write clear, concise, and professional reports that accurately detail investigative steps and outcomes.
- Apprehension & Restraint: Trained and certified in the proper and safe techniques for detaining and restraining subjects in accordance with state law and company policy.
- Legal Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of local and state laws pertaining to shoplifting, citizen's arrest, and use of force.
- EAS Systems: Expertise in the operation, troubleshooting, and response protocols for Electronic Article Surveillance systems.
- First Aid/CPR/AED: Certification is highly preferred to act as an effective first responder to medical emergencies.
