Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Oversee the complete and accurate preparation, review, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns, including all related analysis and support.
- Manage the quarterly and annual tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740, including the calculation of the effective tax rate, current and deferred taxes, and reconciliation of tax accounts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for and manage all tax authority audits, including IRS, state, and local examinations, by preparing responses, gathering documentation, and negotiating positions.
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and new legislation to understand their impact on the company, and prepare detailed technical memos to document tax positions and conclusions.
- Lead the compliance process for all indirect taxes, including sales and use tax, property tax, and value-added tax (VAT), ensuring accurate reporting and remittance.
- Develop and mentor junior tax staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to build a high-performing and engaged tax team.
- Drive process improvement initiatives within the tax function, leveraging technology and automation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Maintain and reconcile all tax-related general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and preparing necessary journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and consultants, coordinating on specialized projects, compliance filings, and strategic tax planning.
- Ensure the company's compliance with all tax-related SOX 404 controls, including documentation, testing, and remediation of any identified deficiencies.
- Calculate and manage the payment of quarterly federal and state estimated taxes and extension payments to minimize penalties and interest exposure.
- Review and analyze tax implications of business transactions, contracts, and new business initiatives, providing proactive guidance to business partners.
- Prepare detailed responses to information requests and notices from various federal, state, and local tax authorities in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management, and create strategies to respond to them.
- Assist in the administration of tax planning and restructuring projects, ensuring that compliance and reporting requirements are properly addressed.
- Manage the preparation of R&D tax credit studies and other tax incentive calculations by working with internal operations and external consultants.
- Ensure proper tax treatment and reporting for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, including participating in due diligence activities.
- Coordinate with international finance teams to ensure foreign tax compliance and reporting obligations are met, including transfer pricing documentation.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive tax calendar to track and manage all filing deadlines, payment due dates, and other critical tax-related activities.
- Act as a key business partner to other departments such as legal, treasury, and accounting, providing essential tax support and analysis for company-wide projects.

- Corporate Tax Compliance: Mastery of federal, state, and local tax laws for C-Corps and S-Corps, including consolidated returns.
- Partnership Taxation (Subchapter K): Strong understanding of partnership tax compliance, allocations, and K-1 reporting.
- State and Local Tax (SALT): Comprehensive knowledge of multi-state income/franchise tax, nexus, and apportionment.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 7-12 years of progressive tax experience, with a combination of public accounting and/or corporate tax department experience.
