Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Architect, deploy, and meticulously maintain multi-site Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) environments, ensuring high availability and robust disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Perform advanced administration and troubleshooting of Citrix ADC (NetScaler) appliances, including configuring load balancing, Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB), content switching, and SSL VPN gateways.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of the Citrix infrastructure, including planning and executing seamless upgrades, patching, and version updates for all components.
  • Develop, test, and maintain master images for both persistent and non-persistent virtual desktops using Citrix Provisioning (PVS) and Machine Creation Services (MCS).
  • Proactively monitor the health and performance of the Citrix environment using tools like Citrix Director, SCOM, and other analytics platforms to identify and resolve issues before they impact users.
  • Configure and optimize Citrix StoreFront and Citrix Workspace to provide a streamlined, intuitive, and high-performing user experience across various endpoints.
  • Author and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), knowledge base articles, and change management records.
  • Act as the Level 3/4 escalation point for all complex Citrix-related incidents, providing expert analysis and resolution for issues escalated from the help desk and other teams.
  • Leverage strong PowerShell scripting skills to automate routine administrative tasks, environment health checks, user session management, and custom reporting.
  • Design and manage user profile solutions, such as FSLogix or Citrix Profile Management, to ensure profile consistency, fast logons, and data integrity.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute business continuity and disaster recovery test plans to validate the resilience of the Citrix services.
  • Secure the Citrix environment by implementing security best practices, managing SSL certificates, and collaborating with cybersecurity teams to address vulnerabilities and ensure compliance.
  • Evaluate emerging Citrix features and related third-party technologies, presenting well-researched recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage and optimize Citrix licensing usage, providing regular reports to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Lead or serve as a key technical contributor on projects involving Citrix infrastructure migrations, expansions, or technology refreshes from planning through to implementation.
  • Conduct in-depth capacity planning and performance tuning to ensure the infrastructure can scale effectively to meet evolving business demands and user growth.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application compatibility, printing, and peripheral-related issues that occur within Citrix virtual sessions.
  • Collaborate closely with network, storage, security, and application development teams to ensure end-to-end service delivery and resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Build and configure Citrix Application Layering (App Layering) to simplify OS and application management, reducing the number of master images required.
  • Provide expert guidance on integrating Citrix environments with cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or AWS, including experience with Citrix Cloud services.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in a structured on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend support for critical system outages and incidents.
  • Mentor junior administrators and team members, sharing knowledge and providing guidance on Citrix technologies and best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and security threats related to virtualization and end-user computing.
  • Generate and present regular reports on system health, user activity, capacity, and performance to IT leadership.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD): Deep expertise in the architecture, installation, configuration, and management of the entire CVAD stack.
  • Citrix ADC (NetScaler): Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting load balancing, GSLB, gateway, and authentication policies.
  • Image Management: Hands-on experience with both Citrix Provisioning (PVS) and Machine Creation Services (MCS) for image creation and delivery.
