Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Act as the primary liaison between non-technical business stakeholders and the software engineering teams, translating complex business needs into detailed technical specifications and user stories.
  • Lead requirements gathering and elicitation sessions through interviews, workshops, and analysis of existing systems and documentation to create comprehensive functional requirement documents.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of existing systems, data flows, and integrations to identify opportunities for improvement, consolidation, or re-engineering.
  • Develop and maintain critical system documentation, including data flow diagrams, process models (using BPMN or similar notations), API specifications, and data mapping artifacts.
  • Utilize strong SQL skills to query and analyze complex datasets from relational databases, validating system logic, troubleshooting data integrity issues, and fulfilling data requests.
  • Design and document specifications for API endpoints and system integrations, ensuring seamless data exchange between internal and third-party applications.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and senior developers to design scalable and resilient technical solutions that align with enterprise standards and long-term strategy.
  • Investigate, triage, and perform root cause analysis for complex production system issues, recommending both immediate workarounds and long-term resolutions.
  • Create and manage detailed test plans, coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business users, and ensure that final deliverables are defect-free and meet all specifications.
  • Conduct gap analysis between current-state and future-state business processes and system functionalities, providing clear insights into project scope and potential impacts.
  • Reverse engineer existing legacy systems to understand and document their behavior, data structures, and business rules where documentation is absent.
  • Ensure that security, performance, and data privacy requirements are defined and incorporated into all system designs and enhancements.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of proposed solutions and technologies, providing recommendations based on technical merit, cost, and alignment with business goals.
  • Facilitate technical design and review sessions to ensure a shared understanding and consensus on the proposed solution across all technical teams.
  • Own and manage the functional configuration of enterprise applications, adapting settings to meet evolving business requirements.

  • Contribute to the organization's data governance strategy and help maintain the enterprise data dictionary and business glossary.

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective ceremonies within an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Assist project managers in defining project scope, estimating effort, identifying key dependencies, and mitigating project risks.
  • Provide training and create support materials for end-users to drive adoption and effective use of new systems and features.
  • Monitor system performance and usage post-deployment to ensure solutions are stable and meeting the defined business objectives.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced SQL: Proficiency in writing complex queries, joins, and subqueries to analyze data and validate system logic across multiple database platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Deep understanding of both Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and Waterfall methodologies and the analyst's role within each.
  • Requirements Elicitation & Documentation: Expertise in translating business needs into clear and concise technical specifications, user stories with acceptance criteria, and functional requirement documents.
  • Process & Data Modeling: Skilled in creating visual models such as UML diagrams, data flow diagrams, and business process models (BPMN) using tools like Visio or Lucidchart.
