Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute a diverse range of functional, performance, environmental, and validation tests on components, sub-assemblies, and finished products following established engineering procedures and work instructions.
- Set up, configure, and operate complex electronic and mechanical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, environmental chambers, vibration tables, and data acquisition systems.
- Perform detailed root-cause analysis on test failures, systematically diagnosing issues down to the component level using advanced troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic tools.
- Meticulously document all test parameters, procedures, observations, and results with a high degree of accuracy in test reports, lab notebooks, and digital tracking systems.
- Assemble, modify, and rework prototype electronic and mechanical assemblies to support testing and development activities, which includes precision soldering, wiring, and component replacement.
- Interpret complex engineering documents, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications to inform test setup and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate directly with design and quality engineers to provide critical feedback on product performance, testability, potential design flaws, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain and calibrate test fixtures and instrumentation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all measurement and test data, adhering to calibration schedules.
- Develop and refine test procedures and work instructions to improve efficiency, clarity, and repeatability of the testing process.
- Generate clear and concise failure analysis reports and test summaries for engineering teams, highlighting critical findings, trends, and actionable recommendations.
- Manage the test lab environment, ensuring it remains organized, safe, and compliant with company and industry standards (e.g., 5S, ESD protocols).
- Perform first-article inspections (FAIs) and dimensional analysis on incoming components and newly assembled units to verify they meet design specifications.
- Isolate failures to specific hardware or software components and clearly communicate findings to the appropriate engineering discipline for resolution.
- Conduct life-cycle and reliability testing, monitoring products over extended periods to identify long-term failure modes and performance degradation.
- Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing and production teams to help resolve issues identified during in-process testing.
Secondary Functions
- Support the development and construction of new, custom test fixtures and automated test systems under the guidance of test engineers.
